???? World Mental Health Day 2024 ???? At Harmony, we believe that every individual deserves access to compassionate, trauma-informed mental health care. This World Mental Health Day, we reaffirm our commitment to offering care that understands the deep impact trauma can have on mental well-being, especially in our West Virginia communities. Did you know that over 60% of adults in West Virginia report experiencing at least one traumatic event in their lifetime? Tragically, many of these traumas stem from experiences in childhood—with abuse, neglect, and household dysfunction often leaving lifelong scars. In fact, 1 in 5 West Virginians struggles with mental health issues directly linked to trauma experienced during childhood or adolescence. At Harmony, we are here to break this cycle. By integrating trauma-informed practices, we aim to provide care that doesn't just treat symptoms but understands the roots of pain. Whether trauma was experienced in childhood or adulthood, we stand with you. ?? #WorldMentalHealthDay #TraumaInformedCare #MentalHealthMatters #HarmonyWV #HEALINGTOGETHER

WHAT THE HOLIDAY? Welcome to Harmony's newest social media series called 'What the Holiday?', where we take a deeper dive into national holidays and the history behind them. While most people in the U.S. may get a day off work and/or school, there's a story behind why these days exist! Our introduction to this series details the history of Labor Day and why we celebrate it as a national bank holiday! Fun Fact: Before becoming a federal holiday, Labor Day was recognized by labor activists and individual states. Although it isn't entirely clear who proposed the holiday for workers, some accounts back the claim of two workers being the founders of Labor Day: 1. Peter J. McGuire: A carpenter and co-founder of the American Federation of Labor, who in 1882 suggested setting aside a day for laboring classes "who from rude nature have delved and carved all the grandeur we behold." 2. Matthew Maguire: A machinist who, according to the New Jersey Historical Society, was credited by the Paterson Morning Call as "the undisputed author of Labor Day as a holiday" after President Cleveland signed it into law. Both Maguire and McGuire are known to have attended the country's first-ever Labor Day parade in New York City. Labor Day officially became recognized as a federal holiday in the United States in 1894. The day is observed to honor and recognize the American labor movement and the works and contributions of laborers to the development and achievements of the United States. #LaborDayWeekend #labormovement #laborday
