In Portland, we restored the historic Studio Building’s copper roof, earning a NACIA Award for preserving its iconic design. This week, we’re highlighting our sheet metal division at Harder Mechanical Contractors. Meet Doug Wetzell – he’s a USMC Veteran who has dedicated his professional career to the sheet metal trade and Harder Mechanical Contractors. But go a little deeper, and you will also find he loves coaching sports, working out, fishing, and hunting. “I like hobbies that are challenging. ‘Do things that are hard and your life will be easy,’” Doug says. Doug Wetzell’s journey in the sheet metal industry began shortly after his service in the Marine Corps. After his father's sudden passing, he quickly found work at a local sheet metal shop sweeping floors to support his mother. His dedication to learning and practicing welding after hours led him to a position on the fabrication line. His hard work propelled him from Apprentice to General Foreman, and now, as Sheet Metal Labor Manager, Doug is committed to creating a collaborative and driven work environment. “I want to work with people who have that same drive that I have. We’ve found those leaders, and I’m still looking for more.”
