Project Highlight: Platinum Pool Project | Palos Park, IL | Jim Russo Hard Rock was contracted to remove 94 lineal feet of 12" thick reinforced concrete wall. The customer had initially constructed an in-ground in-pool island for a “Jimmy Buffet-style” bar but later decided to eliminate it. The cutline sloped from 4’ to 8’ high and the wall had to be broken down to below the existing contour level of the floor. The work involved floor saw cutting to establish break points and then demolishing those existing wall with a Brokk to allow for repouring the pool floor with a smooth bottom and depth changes. Special care was taken to protect the existing wall lighting, and because the in-flow and out-flow fittings remained intact, additional protection was required for these features. A significant amount of concrete overpour was also removed during the process. Plywood was placed down at any point where equipment would be in contact with the wall. Rebar was hand cut to avoid damaging the pool, which proved to be a labor-intensive task. All debris was removed from site by hand to avoid using large equipment. This jobsite was particularly unique because we had to walk through the Customer’s yard and house to access the backyard.
