This CTE month we celebrate students across the nation for their commitment to a career in the skilled trades.

Archibald Alphonso Alexander was the first Black man to graduate from the University of Iowa's engineering program. At 26, he and a colleague formed the Alexander & Repass engineering company, which built many freeways, bridges, and parkways in Northeast United States.

This CTE month we celebrate teachers and schools for their dedication to training the next generation of skilled trades professionals.

This Black History Month, we want to highlight African Americans breaking barriers in the skilled trades. Adrienne Bennett is the first Black woman to become a master plumber in the U.S. She is the founder and CEO of the contracting company Benkari, which has completed a number of large-scale construction, maintenance, and renovation projects across the city of Detroit.

February is Career and Technical Education Month. Hosted by the Association for Career Technical Education and sponsored by the National Association of Home Builders, CTE Month celebrates the value of CTE and the accomplishments of CTE programs across the country. #CTEMonth

This Black History Month, we celebrate the important contributions of African Americans in the skilled trades. Charles Stewart, III broke barriers as a founder of the first Black electrical union in the United States. His efforts led to the desegregation of the Illinois' Local Union 134.
