Oh the places you will go with a degree from OCCC! Our alumni are making significant contributions in virtually every industry in our state and beyond. Several were honored this past week and were inducted into the Oklahoma City Community College Alumni Hall of Fame: Lt. Governor Chris Anoatubby, Jason Gwynn (Jason G.), Saidy Herrera, The Honorable Natalie Mai, Yovana Lopez Medina, Esq., Anand “Happy” Patel (posthumously), Stephanie Wallace and Ed Williams! Very grateful to the Oklahoma State Legislature for honoring the life of my twin brother Anand “Happy” Patel. Our family is looking forward to celebrating him next week as he is inducted posthumously in Oklahoma City Community College ‘s 2024 Alumni Hall of Fame ????

Giving up our scholarships and our pursuits of engineering degrees, my twin Anand “Happy” Patel and I enrolled at a community college. OCCC is where I found my passion for teaching, languages and diplomacy while my twin found his love for entrepreneurship. In 2017, when I was inducted in Oklahoma City Community College’s Alumni Hall of Fame, my twin brother sat in the audience and cheered on me. I lost him in 2018 to a tragic plane crash in Arizona. I am so beyond thrilled to sit in the audience this year and cheer on him as our college celebrates his charismatic life ?? and his legacy of giving with the Happy World Foundation Inc. ????

As I am walking out of the Uganda ???? House after my speaking engagement, I holler “?Qué lo que, Se?or Presidente?” to the President of the Dominican Republic ???? Luis Abinader and tell him how I learned my Spanish in the DR over a decade ago while interning for the then First Lady Margarita Cede?o de Fernández. He exclaims, “Aprendiste muy bien” (You learned very well) and goes on to take a selfie with me. As I walk into the UN ????, I realize two members of the President’s delegation are my friends I worked with in 2011 who are now both high level public officials in the country. Armando J. Manzueta Pe?a is the Vice-Minister for Public Innovation and Technology and Ivan M. Cruz Burgos is the Director of Financial Mechanisms and Portfolio Management for the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources.
