We’re proud to partner with the Immigrant Welcome Center in Portland to offer English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes to our associates in the Greater Portland region. These customized classes allow our non-native English-speaking associates to learn the language as well as phrases related to working in our stores. Pictured here is our first class of recent graduates! We look forward to continuing to offer these classes and bringing to life our aspiration to be the most welcoming place to work and shop.

We’re honored to be named a Patriot Employer by Disabled American Veterans, @davhq. We strive to be the most welcoming place to work and shop every day of the year, and are proud to offer the hundreds of veterans and active service members on our team, like Marine Corps veteran Stefan M., with safe and supportive environments where everyone can thrive. Stefan, who has been on our team since his retirement from active duty in 1996, says, “There’s a lot of pride in the veteran community, and I’m proud that Hannaford plays a significant role in the community.” #VeteransDay https://ms.spr.ly/6041WMdTd

As we approach Veterans Day, we salute the service people in our communities who have willingly sacrificed for the benefit of our country. We’re proud to partner with dedicated community organizations like the Travis Mills Foundation, who support recalibrated veterans and their families through various programs. Founder and president of the Foundation, U.S. Army SSG (Ret.) Travis Mills, says, “Hannaford continuously steps up to support the Foundation’s largest events, including the Plane Pull at Portland Jetport in October and Miles for Mills in May. Whether Hannaford associates are volunteering at our Veterans Retreat or supporting community events by donating food and water to fuel our efforts, Hannaford is always there, supporting the important mission of the Travis Mills Foundation.” It’s a small way we can say “thank you” to the heroic people who serve our country. https://ms.spr.ly/6048W1F9r Below: Travis Mills with associates at the Travis Mills Foundation Plane Pull last month.

Pablo Perea was born in Cuba in the days of the Batista regime, to a father who owned farmland and a mother who taught English. He credits early exposure to his dad’s work ethic for the launch of his career with Hannaford as a meat cutter back in 2005. Today, as assistant store manager in our Marlborough, MA store, he mentors younger generations and strives to instill in them the power of hard work and the enduring legacy of cultural heritage that he learned from his family. As an employer, we’re proud to celebrate our associates’ heritages and believe that doing so will lead us toward our aspiration of being the most welcoming place to work and shop throughout National #HispanicHeritageMonth and every month. #BRG

Vilma Carrasco’s Dominican identity is central to her life and work. As the evening operations manager in our Highland, NY store, she prides herself on making Spanish speakers feel more comfortable when they shop by welcoming them in their native language. She also loves sharing traditions, customs and stories about the Dominican Republic with her two bilingual daughters. Vilma reflects the strength of embracing one’s roots while empowering others to do the same. She contributes to our aspiration to be the most welcoming place to work and shop throughout National #HispanicHeritageMonth and every month. #BRG

Our aspiration to be the most welcoming place to work and shop comes to life every day through our associate-led Business Resource Groups (BRGs). One of those groups, the Mosaic BRG, represents BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Color) communities and strives to drive a culture of belonging. During National Hispanic Heritage Month, this team educates associates about the intrinsic ways food and celebration are central to Hispanic people and their families. Leading the charge on those efforts is Westbrook, ME Store Manager Francys Perkins, who recently became co-chair of the Mosaic BRG. After moving to the U.S. from the Dominican Republic, Francys didn’t fully understand the language or culture. She has since made it her mission to ensure everyone feels welcome and heard. #HispanicHeritageMonth #BRG
