Today, 1 in 5 of children in the US have a diagnosable mental health disorder. However, about half of children who need care do not receive it from a behavioral health provider. As they seek care, families often face waits that are several months long and fees that are prohibitively expensive. Today’s healthcare system is failing our children. We have set out to rebuild the pediatric behavioral health system from the ground up. At Handspring, our mission is to create a world where our children’s mental health is cared for as much as their physical health is. We are building a modern clinic for children and families. We deliver a care experience that integrates our digital platform, in-person clinics, and telehealth to deliver the right care, at the right time. In addition to psychotherapy, our services will soon include access to evidence-based content, psychiatry, and medication management for children and families.

We started?Handspring Health?to build a pediatric mental healthcare model that was a win-win-win for our patients, clinicians, and payor partners. To get there, we chose to do the hard things few in the industry were willing to do. Our clinicians are not only full-time salaried employees of Handspring, but they receive comprehensive training and supervision in evidence-based practices, and they have a reasonable caseload. We collaborate closely with schools, pediatricians, and community-based organizations to coordinate the care of our patients. And we will soon launch in-person care. Today, we provide the highest efficacy mental health treatment for children that parents can find anywhere in the country. We’re happy to announce this care is now more accessible to millions thanks to our partnership with Independence Blue Cross! Tackling this massive problem will require innovation from both providers and payors, and Independence has long been at the forefront of adopting innovative approaches in mental healthcare. Our partnership allows Handspring to continue to provide the highest quality care, and provides for fast and seamless access to care for all Independence members. This is why we do what we do at Handspring Health. Feedback from a parent (posted with permission): "[Handspring] LITERALLY changed not just my daughter's life, but our entire family dynamic. We had become slaves to accompanying (enabling?) her anxieties and thought we were going to have to consider homeschool, as she was experiencing debilitating separation anxiety. It was wild to see Handspring Health in Times Square last week. To think the company didn't exist publicly just 18 months ago.
