On Nov. 8 we hosted a volunteer opportunity at the Synopsys office in San Diego as part of their global Season of Service with Points of Light! The volunteers prepped materials and packed a total of 357 paper circuit activity kits for the Elementary Institute of Science to use at their camp programs. The paper circuit activity is used to teach their students how electricity and circuits work. #PointsofLight #Synopsys4Good
Come farm with Botanical Community Development Initiatives (BCDI)! BCDI has a working urban farm growing food for the community. Sundays are days when they all get together to work on all aspects of the farm. This is a good opportunity to meet new folks and learn about growing food, composting, caring for plants, and so much more! Volunteer tasks will vary but may include: planting, seeding, weeding, mulching, up-potting, working with the compost system, seed collecting, seed sorting, and/or various maintenance projects or building projects. Join San Diego Canyonlands in cleaning up Hollywood and Pepper Canyons, protecting important habitat for wildlife, including Narrow Leaf Milkweed for the Monarch Butterfly. Volunteers will be clearing back invasive grasses and plants to keep the trail clear and reduce fire risk, while also supporting native plants present in the canyon. ?? The North County Turkey Trot on Thursday Nov. 28 is the perfect way to start your Thanksgiving Day! Volunteers will support a community event that fundraises for Active Kids Alliance, a nonprofit organization that provides kids the opportunity to play sports when they otherwise wouldn't have the chance to. Volunteers will help hand out medals and water, pick up trash, and help with setting up and breaking down the event. Volunteer with the San Diego Blood Bank at their Sports San Diego Blood Drive on Thursday Nov. 21 from 1:30pm - 6:30pm to help ensure a healthy, safe, and clean environment for blood donors. The BLISS-full Thanksgiving Program provides not just a meal, but also connection and companionship to isolated, low-income seniors, fostering a sense of belonging during a lonely season. By serving festive meals or delivering them to housebound seniors, Bliss Care Foundation can strengthen relationships and identify those needing ongoing care. Volunteers will gather at the prep location to prepare and pack Thanksgiving meals. They will work together in the community room to assemble and package each meal, ensuring everything is ready for delivery. Once the meals are packed, volunteer will disperse the meals to the designated delivery areas, all located within El Cajon. The Jim Krause Memorial Ride the Point for Pancreatic Cancer Research connects the community by providing family-friendly bicycle rides that highlight the natural beauty, historical sites, recreational opportunities, and healthy lifestyles available in the Point Loma area. Each year, the majority of the funds are donated to UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center.
