Michigan set a new precedent for hospital price transparency. Will other states follow? With SB95, Michigan lawmakers are making it clear: if hospitals don’t comply with federal price transparency laws, they won’t be able to collect patient debt. This bold move reinforces what we at Handl Health believe—healthcare costs should never be a mystery. Read our latest blog from Shapari Samimi to learn more about Michigan's latest moves on healthcare price transparency! #HealthcarePriceTransparency #HealthcarePricing?

Last week, Ahmed Marmoush wrote about the need for stronger action on hospital price transparency—and just days later, Michigan delivered. The state passed SB95, which blocks hospitals from collecting patient debt if they aren't in compliance with price transparency laws. This is a huge step forward and more states should follow suit. Transparency isn’t just policy—it’s a right for patients, employers and the whole ecosystem. Check out my latest blog to learn more: https://lnkd.in/ga9MBBGA

Grateful for the opportunity to speak with Marquise Francis at NBC News about healthcare price transparency—something that should be a given but still feels out of reach for many. It’s frustrating to see patients forced to make life-altering decisions without clear pricing, only to be blindsided by bills later. Transparency isn’t just about numbers on a website—it’s about trust, fairness and the ability to plan ahead. As James Gelfand from The ERISA Industry Committee pointed out in the article, transparency can increase competition, helping bring down costs for both patients and employers. But access to data alone isn’t enough—it needs to be clear, usable and consistent to truly drive change. At Handl Health, we're working every day to make this data usable, putting it into the hands of brokers, TPAs and health plans, helping them understand not just the costs of services and procedures, but also how different networks impact access and affordability. Momentum is building, policies are shifting and more people are demanding change. It’s a conversation worth having. Read the full article -

The Michigan Senate just passed the Hospital Price Transparency Act, reinforcing the push for clearer healthcare costs. This shift means more accountability for hospitals and greater visibility for patients. At Handl Health, we’re seeing how price transparency is reshaping the benefits landscape. Brokers and consultants who leverage real cost data are gaining a competitive edge—strengthening negotiations, optimizing benefit design, and uncovering savings for clients. Curious how this might impact your strategy? Always happy to chat. #PriceTransparency #EmployeeBenefits #Healthcare https://lnkd.in/g5jb8gG9

Last week’s executive order on price transparency had a lot of people asking: “OK, great… but how will this actually make an impact?” Fair question. With less than a quarter of hospitals complying with past rules, it’s easy to be skeptical. But if history has taught us anything, it’s that real change doesn’t happen just because a policy is announced—it happens when the people demand it. And in this case, we believe that's employers, brokers, patients and companies like Handl Health. ?? So what’s different this time? And what can you do about it? Ahmed Marmoush does a great job breaking it down in our latest blog (as always!). Check it out - https://lnkd.in/gcxvf4Pq

CEO & Founder @ Handl Health

After years of relentless advocacy, policy changes and industry efforts, we’ve arrived at another pivotal moment for healthcare price transparency—an Executive Order from the office of the President to reinforce and strengthen existing transparency legislation. But the question is: Will it finally work? For too long, the true cost of care has been difficult—if not impossible—to access. Employers struggle to design cost-effective health plans, patients face unpredictable bills and even insurers and providers work within a system where pricing data isn’t always clear or comparable. Even with existing regulations, only 14% of hospitals fully comply with transparency rules today. Meanwhile: ->Employers pay 27% more than necessary for common services simply because they lack visibility into pricing. ->Prescription drug costs remain opaque, limiting opportunities for smarter plan design. ->Patients face wide price variations, often paying vastly different amounts for the same procedure. This isn’t about blaming hospitals, insurers or any one part of the system—it’s about fixing a broken process that makes it difficult for everyone to operate efficiently and fairly. Transparency alone won’t fix healthcare. But radical transparency—with clear, accessible and enforceable pricing information—empowers everyone in the system: -Employers can design better health benefits that balance cost and quality. -Patients can make informed decisions about their care. -Hospitals and insurers can negotiate and compete based on value, not complexity. At Handl Health, we believe data should serve those footing the bill—including both patients and employers. Price transparency shouldn’t just be a regulation; it should be a tool for better decision-making, fairer pricing and a more sustainable healthcare system. This executive order is a step in the right direction. Now, it’s time for action.
