Meet Rhonda! Rhonda has worked as a registered nurse in the NICU at St. David’s Medical Center for the past 30 years and has been the Director of the NICU for the past 15 years. Rhonda recently retired from her director position and joined the Hand to Hold team. ?? Rhonda has been a strong supporter of Hand to Hold for many years and has watched the amazing impact Hand to Hold has had on NICU families in the NICU at St. David’s Medical Center. She served on the Hand to Hold Board of Directors from 2017 to 2020 and the Emeritus Board from 2020- present. Rhonda was recently recognized by Hand to Hold as a NICU Champion in September of 2022. ?? ??ONE DAY...ONE MISSION: Amplify Austin 2025 ?? On March 5th, Hand to Hold will take part in Amplify Austin Day, the biggest giving event in Central Texas. This is a 24-hour giving campaign that unites our community to support local organizations that create lasting change. ?? For NICU families, every day can feel overwhelming — but with your support, we can offer the comfort of knowing they are not alone. Hand to Hold bridges the gap by offering early intervention mental health support to NICU and bereaved parents, helping to alleviate the emotional challenges of a traumatic birth, a NICU stay, and/or infant loss. Our support is available before, during, and after the NICU experience and is always provided at no cost to the parents in both English and Spanish. This is where YOU come in ? ?? Raising Awareness About Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) ?? Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) is a condition that affects the eyes of some premature infants. It is caused by the abnormal development of retinal blood vessels in the eye and is commonly linked to premature birth and low birth weight. ?? ?? What is ROP? ROP can occur in babies born earlier than 30 weeks of pregnancy, weighing less than 3 lbs. 5 oz., or those who require extended oxygen support after birth. These factors can disrupt the development of the blood vessels in the eyes, leading to potential vision problems. ?? Why is ROP important? ROP is one of the leading causes of blindness in children, but when diagnosed early, it can be treated and managed to prevent serious long-term effects. ??
