?? Can digital education improve hand hygiene? A *study at the Medical University of Vienna (at AKH) explored whether **video-based hand hygiene education for parents in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) is as effective as face-to-face training by nurses. The Semmelweis Kiosk was used to assess hand hygiene quality and to provide objective visual feedback. Key findings: ? Parents trained via video performed just as well as those trained by nurses. ? 68% of parents in the video group achieved proper hand disinfection, compared to 59.1% in the nurse-trained group. ? 58% preferred video education over personal instruction by a nurse. ?? Why does this matter? Infection prevention is critical in NICUs, and effective hand hygiene training for parents is essential. However, nurses are often overloaded with work, making digital education a powerful tool to ensure compliance, ultimately saving valuable time and costs. ?? This study highlights the potential of digital and automated training. In this context, the Semmelweis Kiosk is an innovative and efficient solution: It enables independent hand hygiene training with AI-enhanced visual feedback, ensuring consistent education and improved compliance.
