Hanan Refugees Relief Group will be hosting our annual Halal Turkey Drive-Thru Event on Saturday, November 23rd from 11am to 2pm at Salam Elementary School, located at 815 W. Layton Ave. Milwaukee, WI. Thanks to sponsorship from Islamic Relief USA, Hanan will be handing out 700 Halal turkeys. and thanks to a donation from Hunger Task Force, canned and dried goods will be distributed as well. Hayat Pharmacy will also have flu and Covid shots available onsite. Anyone in need is encouraged to pre-register: https://lnkd.in/gvVju3aQ. Meet the Team Tuesday! Zach Schaub started at Hanan this summer as an intern and thanks to his helpful work ethic was promoted to part-time Administrative Assistant in September. The administrative assistants are the first people our visitors and clients see at the Hanan office, and help with appointments, donations, track inventory, our Halal Food Box distributions and more. Zach especially enjoys helping with our events, such as the Halal Turkey Event coming up on Saturday! Zach also attends UWM and is working towards a degree in software development. Meet the Team Tuesday! Lena Mahmoud joined the Hanan team last month as a Case Aide. A recent graduate of UW-Madison, she brings her skills and experience to assist the Case Managers with our clients. Her primary focus is on our newly-accredited green card program, helping those who have been n the U.S. for one year or more begin the citizen process. Lena's passion for culture, community and learning makes her a great fit for her role. She is also fluent in Arabic and English. Meet the Team Tuesday! Desire Mukucha joined Hanan in October 2024 as a Case Coordinator. Originally from the Democratic Republic of Congo and raised in Tanzania, Desire has a varied background in social services and non-profit management and also speaks 5 languages: Swahili, Kibembe, Engish, French and Lingala. The Case Coordinator is the first person our refugee clients have contact with when they arrive to Milwaukee. They greet the client at the airport, take them to their new home, help them navigate their new city, get necessary documentation, enroll in school and so many more essential services. Meet the Team Tuesday! Andrea Vodicka joined Hanan Refugees Relief Group as the Community Engagement & Grants Manager in Spring 2023. Before becoming a Hanan employee, She was a founding volunteer, creating wish lists and advocating for refugee needs. Andrea brings extensive experience in writing, editing, event planning, communications and a corporate and non-profit background to her role. She is responsible for community outreach and writing communication materials to raise awareness of & involvement in refugee resettlement and Hanan's other programs. Andrea also works to gain volunteers, build partnerships and increase community involvement with Hanan.
