With a projected need for 40,000 skilled workers in maritime & offshore wind in the next six years, Hampton Roads is stepping up. Programs like the Navy’s Advanced Training in Defense Manufacturing and the Regional Workforce Training System are preparing people like Margaret Abrams, who recently launched her career at Newport News Shipbuilding, A Division of HII, to build the next generation of Virginia-class submarines and beyond. We’re also thrilled about LS GreenLink USA’s investment in a new Chesapeake facility, which promises 330+ new jobs, plus their commitment to recruiting skilled veterans and area talent for a strong local workforce. Big kudos to Tidewater Community College, Virginia Peninsula Community College, and Virginia Beach City Public Schools for their ongoing dedication to training future maritime professionals. "Ultimately, we want to build an ecosystem that can support the offshore wind industry along the East Coast," says Matt Smith from Hampton Roads Alliance. This collaborative effort is creating a robust pipeline to meet the demands of Virginia's critical industries.
