??Bringing History to Life: HCH Students Explore Berlin ?? From February 13th to 16th, our Years 10-13 History students embarked on an unforgettable educational journey to Berlin, immersing themselves in the city’s rich and complex past. This experiential learning opportunity took them beyond textbooks, deepening their understanding of both the Nazi era and Cold War Berlin. Guided by the insightful Steve, students visited sites that spoke volumes about resilience and remembrance, including the haunting remains of Sachsenhausen concentration camp and the historic Olympic Stadium, once a symbol of Nazi propaganda. They also explored key Cold War landmarks, standing where the Berlin Wall once divided the city. A blanket of snow added a powerful, reflective atmosphere to the trip, making history feel tangible and personal. It’s moments like these that highlight the power of learning outside the classroom—fostering critical thinking, empathy, and global awareness. Mental Health Awareness Week at Hampton Court House At HCH, we recognize the importance of student wellbeing, and this week, we’re proud to highlight the work of our Student Mental Health Champions. This dedicated group has undergone bespoke training to foster active listening, empathy, and peer support. Already making an impact, they’ve introduced: ? Recharge Room – A calm lunchtime drop-in space for reflection and relaxation ? Wellbeing Walks – Utilizing our stunning grounds & Bushy Park for mindful movement ? Reflective Garden Sessions – Promoting self-awareness in our Level 5 award-winning RHS community garden ? Leo, our wellbeing dog – Supporting student wellbeing with his calming presence ?? ?At our Sixth Form Open Evening last term, we introduced our holistic Sixth Form programme, designed to support more than academic success. It aims to foster independence, personal growth, and confidence, preparing students for life beyond school. This unique programme blends academics, physical and mental health, leadership, cultural literacy, and philanthropy, offering both compulsory and optional opportunities tailored to individual goals. We officially launched the programme and activities are already underway! Our Culture Society recently attended a performance by the London Philharmonic Orchestra at the Royal Festival Hall, experiencing Brahms and Bartók as part of our Cultural Literacy programme. Last week, the students had a wonderful time seeing Puccini’s La bohème at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. Our Physical Health programme includes a structured weightlifting course guided by coaches at Locker 27 strength and conditioning gym, followed by regular gym sessions. Our Leadership element provides valuable experience as it includes three modules on various leadership topics from InvestIN Careers. Our Principal, Katherine Vintiner, recently contributed to a TES article on the significance of Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) and how recent curriculum reforms are impacting language education in schools. At Hampton Court House, we’re strong advocates of MFL, understanding that early exposure to languages brings significant educational benefits, from enhanced cognitive development to improved problem-solving skills and creativity. Starting in Year 1, our French immersion program runs through to Year 4, and French, Spanish and Mandarin options are part of our curriculum offer. Beyond the classroom, our students also enjoy immersive trips to France and Spain, providing them with invaluable firsthand experiences of the language and culture. We are delighted to share the outstanding achievements of our Year 11 students who received their 2024 GCSE results today. Over 50% of all grades awarded were grades 8-9 (A*), with a remarkable 31% attaining a grade 9 (top 1/3 of A*). 76% of all grades awarded were 7-9 (A*/A) which completed a fantastic academic achievement.
