The Hampton Roads Council has three missions: to enhance the morale of active duty personnel and their families; to focus on educating citizens and elected officials about the importance of the Sea Services to our nation's defense and economic well-being; and to support youth through programs, that expose young people to the values of our sea services. We are extremely proud to say that here in Hampton Roads, the Council has commissioned 28 ships to date that have included seven aircraft carriers. We are now working on the 29th commissioning in support of USS John F. Kennedy (CVN 79) which is the second Ford-class aircraft carrier we have supported. The Hampton Roads Council is renowned for hosting outstanding events throughout the year. The Annual Dinner is well known for featuring illustrious speakers and bringing together top Navy, local, state, and federal officials and members of the business community. The Council also holds an annual Ombudsman Appreciation Dinner as well as Congressional Roundtable and participates in the Sailor of the Year program. The Hampton Roads council also educates and empowers military spouses by supporting the CORE (Continuum of Resources and Education) program. Our educational endeavors promote the value, importance and contributions of the sea services.

Happy Presidents Day! Throughout its 248-year history, the United States of America has elected extraordinary leaders to guide our nation in times of conflict, economic instability, natural disaster and peace. These individuals have left a lasting legacy of dedication to our nation and the freedoms for which it was built on. At the beginning of this year, we celebrated the life and legacy of one of those leaders, former President Jimmy Carter, who passed away at the age of 100 in late December. He exemplified selfless service and true leadership throughout his long life, from his time as a U.S. Navy submariner to his term in the oval office and long after. We take the time on Presidents Day to honor the legacy of Jimmy Carter and all the great presidents throughout history who shaped America into the phenomenal nation it is today. We are especially proud of the six Sailors, including Jimmy Carter, who eventually served as commander-in-chief, proving that some of the finest Americans are forged at sea. #presidentsday #usa #seaservices #jimmycarter #leaders #usnavy #thankyou #remember
