We’re giving a shoutout to our founder and executive director, Tara Hammond, who recently did a fireside chat during the keynote luncheon with Catherine McLean, founder and CEO of Dylan Green at the Intersolar & Energy Storage North America conference in San Diego. The conference is a flagship event that delivers a nationwide look into solar, storage, electric vehicle charging infrastructure and manufacturing at federal and state levels. Tara shared about her career progression and insights in the clean energy space in the luncheon, titled “Powerful Perspectives - Leveling Up Your Career: Building Your Brand and Charting Your Path.” Solar is a primarily male-dominated industry, and it was great to see two electric and successful women highlighted.

Our pickleball fundraiser benefiting the Olivewood Gardens & Learning Center Clean Energy Resilience Project is less than three weeks away! Alongside our pickleball fundraiser on April 6th, we are holding a silent auction online for a variety of unique items donated by local businesses. The auction is live now, and closes as our fundraiser ends. It was nice connecting with local clean energy advocates at The San Diego Regional Climate Collaborative's quarterly event today! The Collaborative, which is connecting the region to advance climate change solutions, recently expanded its membership to include nonprofits, and Hammond Climate Solutions Foundation is one of its newest members. The event took place at the lovely Sherman Heights Community Center, and the clean energy project we supported for the Center last year was highlighted. The 24kW solar power and 20kWh energy storage system was made possible by various local organizations (San Diego Community Power, San Diego Foundation, BQuest Foundation, Calpine Energy Solutions, LLC and Futures Unbound) and the many participants of our first-ever pickleball fundraiser last year. I love that it's been featured at various climate events. If you're interested in learning more about another local clean energy project, you're invited to join our Pickleball Fundraiser for the Olivewood Gardens & Learning Center's Clean Energy Resilience Project. It's taking place on Sunday, April 6 from 10:15 a.m.-12:15 p.m. at Youth Tennis San Diego | Barnes Tennis Center. ?? It’s #SolarSaturday and today we’re featuring the WAY FREE MEDICAL CLINIC INC, located in Clay County, Florida. This nonprofit organization was able to go solar thanks in part to the #SolarMoonshotProgram’s nearly $34,000 bridge loan, floating the cost of the federal tax credit. They are expected to save $14,000 from the 41.58kW solar power system this year, and those savings will be reinvested back into their community. "We are so grateful for Solar Moonshot's unique way of supporting the installation of the new donated solar power system on our free medical clinic. Covering our tax credit obligation until we realize the credit from the IRS is genius and we would not have attempted the project without that support. We began generating solar power yesterday and it appears that the new system will virtually eliminate our electric bill, providing an estimated $500,000 in savings over the life of the system. As a major sustainability element for our nonprofit organization, this is the equivalent of getting a new major donor commitment for 25 years at practically no cost," said Don Fann, Executive Director. ?? ????? We won’t stay silent while the Trump Administration not ignores the serious impacts of the climate crisis, but actively accelerates it on behalf of the fossil fuel industry. It’s egregious that after fires devastated Los Angeles, Trump is expanding fossil fuel drilling, slashed (and is trying to claw back) renewable energy funding, reversed clean vehicle regulations, puts fossil fuel executives in charge of our environment and is undermining the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) workers fighting for our health and planet. Gutting the NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), which has a mission is to understand and predict changes in the environment (flooding, fires, hurricanes, winds, etc.), and to manage and conserve the nation's coastal and marine resources, is dangerous and will have severe consequences. Communities of Concern are hit first and worst by the climate crisis despite contributing the least to it, which is unjust. Today, our executive director, Tara Hammond, and graphic design intern, Lucas Baker, attended the rally to Stop Trump Attacks on the EPA and Our Climate. They enjoyed seeing so many climate friends! The event, which was organized by our friends at SanDiego350 and Interfaith Coalition for Earth Justice, had a great energy, a big turnout and terrific speakers. An enthusiastic crowd started at the San Diego Federal Courthouse then marched to the Federal Building and rallied in support of San Diego’s EPA workers who are under attack. They called out Trump’s devastating actions for our climate and our future, and advocated that San Diego and California step up climate action – including passing state legislation (SB 684 and AB 1243) to make California’s largest fossil fuel polluters pay to mitigate, remedy, and prevent climate change costs and harms. ??? Save the date - April 11 - for the #GlobalClimateStrike! #ClimateStrike #RespectExistenceOrExpectResistance

?? We're just a month away from our Pickleball Fundraiser for the Olivewood Gardens & Learning Center Clean Energy Resilience Project! It is taking place on Sunday, April 6 from 10:15-12:15 p.m. at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego. ?? Participation will help Olivewood Gardens save over $400,000 over the next 10 years from a 16kW solar power system paired with energy storage! There will be additional savings and reduced carbon reduction from the smart heat pump system. These substantial savings will be reinvested into Olivewood Gardens, which serves as an interactive, indoor-outdoor classroom for children and adults from around San Diego County, particularly South Bay residents. Register today at https://lnkd.in/gNaaxYeQ ?? Whether you're a seasoned pickleball player or a complete novice, we invite you to join us for an afternoon of fun, camaraderie and climate advocacy. Rebuild fire-devastated homes in Los Angeles all-electric with solar My op-ed in pv magazine Global "There is no reason to have both electricity and fossil gas in a building at the same time. There is nothing gas does that electricity doesn’t do better" "Making new construction buildings all electric eliminates gas from them, reducing up-front and long-term costs." "There are at least?11 reasons?why rooftop solar reduces costs for everyone." "Taking these measures can eliminate a building occupant's fossil gas bill, electricity bill, and gasoline bill." "Los Angeles has an opportunity to do the same by rebuilding only all-electric homes – reduce upfront costs by eliminating the wasteful installation of fossil gas; reduce customer bills for fossil gas and electricity in new homes and vehicle fuel; reduce fire risk from transmission-line sparks and gas pipeline ruptures; and reduce health, environmental, and climate damage due to fossil gas." https://lnkd.in/gr59G4X2 Los Angeles Times Los Angeles Mayor's Office of Public Engagement

It's #SolarSaturday and today we're highlighting The Ecology Center in San Juan Capistrano. The nonprofit, which is?on a historic agricultural property that is surrounded by urban sprawl, is a 28-acre Regenerative Organic Certified? farm and education center that serves as a hub for southern California’s ecological movement. The Ecology Center is approaching its 4th #solaranniversary on its 36kW-DC rooftop solar system, which was made possible by our #SolarMoonshotProgram and philanthropic?partner, #LeftCoastFund. The solar power system is expected to generate $90,000 in utility costs over its first 20 years of operation. Savings are already being reinvested back into initiatives such as offering apprenticeships for vocational training to expand local food production throughout southern California, including providing scholarships to increase access for people in Communities of Concern. Today, our founder and executive director, Tara Hammond, joined fellow climate activist Morgan Chan, in the Ecology's first Regenerative Organic? Strawberry U-Pick day of the season. ?? It was a sweet treat! They also enjoyed lunch at the cafe, watching the kids garden program, buying local produce and vegan treats at the market and the good vibes. ??
