Our Superintendent Group had the privilege and opportunity to participate in a Masonry Workshop recently. The?International Masonry Institute?and the?International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers?Training Center in Lorain County, Ohio provided the Hammond Team with an eye-opening day of masonry education.?Tom Elliott CSI, CDT?and the Local BAC Union trainers conducted a classroom lecture and hands-on opportunity to lay brick and block. The training would not have been complete without a competitive edge added to it and our teams competing for bragging rights! The Superintendents concluded with a celebratory stop at The Hot Dog Heaven in nearby Amherst, where they were treated to a fantastic lunch. #Masonry #BuildingConstruction

It has been a bitterly cold winter; however, work continues at Bryden Elementary in the Beachwood City School District. The new 62,500 square foot school building is primarily made of masonry construction, which can pose challenges when working through the winter months. The new Green Middle School and Green Elementary School will be opening to students in the Fall of this year!?Our trade partners are hard at work installing the interior finishes in both school buildings. Later this spring and summer the final site work will commence, which includes the demolition of three existing school buildings. It's been a busy, yet rewarding, two months already in 2025! Hammond has conducted multiple training sessions to promote safe work environments for our employees. We have invited industry professionals to partner with us in conducting Scaffold Competent Person Training (Safety Resources Company of Ohio) and our annual Drug-Free Workplace Training (Shawn Bain from Global Drug Concepts). Hammond's Director of Safety, Justin Snyder, has also led sessions in the field for Mobile Elevated Work Platforms, Fall Prevention and Forklift Operator training. These sessions are also great opportunities to thank our employees (with a good meal) for their outstanding commitment to safety and quality workmanship. We strive each day to do the right thing! It has been an honor to work with the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission and notably, Ramzi Najjar, K-12 Program Manager, on dozens of K-12 school projects. Ramzi has been a tremendous leader and facilitator of the State programs for over a decade. Yesterday, we celebrated his last GMP session with Brunswick City Schools.?Ramzi, we wish you all the best in your next chapter!

The new Louisville Fire Station continues to make great progress since breaking ground last summer. Hammond's carpenters have been working hard through the winter elements to frame and sheet exterior walls and set trusses. The 16,000 square foot combined Fire and EMS facility will replace the aging station located on Mill Street. The new station is scheduled to open in the fall of this year. Keep up the great work!

Here is an exciting update from Columbiana County, where construction on the United Local School District’s new PK-12 School is coming together. Thank you to Project Manager Karen Little for these impressive photos, which showcase freshly painted blue and teal walls, well-built staircases, and even the navy and gold school colors that adorn the gym walls. The new 158,000 square foot building will usher in a new era of Golden Eagle students.?Notice the science labs, windows featuring bright country views, and plenty of space for modern learning. The target date for completion of this building is late May 2026. This is big news for the district and Hanoverton community! The Construction Trades are an essential part of what we do at Hammond, whether they are electricians, carpenters, painters, masons, the list goes on! Thankfully, more schools are educating students on the quality of work and the opportunities available to them after high school in the skilled trades. Maylie is a high school senior in a local construction trades program, and she loves what she does out in the field. She has been working with Hammond since June 2024 and Maylie said "I really enjoy getting to work with my hands and getting to work alongside experienced carpenters that can teach me new skills and tasks every day." Maylie had the choice of different trades in her school, but she chose the carpentry path because she enjoys getting to build things. At our United Local Project, Maylie is currently working with Journeyman Carpenter, Kevin, to install backsplash material in a Life Skills classroom. #BuildingConstruction Ohio Facilities Construction Commission

Construction projects can impact a community in many positive ways beyond the end result of a new facility.?Sharing the world of construction can truly inspire young minds.?We had the honor of visiting Crestview Elementary School in Columbiana, Ohio this week to talk about their new school building project.?Kindergartners shared their imaginative playground designs, while the Fourth graders learned about the science behind earthwork and different careers in the construction industry.?Their unique designs and thoughtful questions made this an extra special day.
