In the midst of the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, I felt compelled to help in some small way. While still trying to figure out how we at Poppy Hand-Crafted Popcorn could help, I reached out to Brendon Hamlin with HAMLIN Creative to ask if he’d be willing to help tell the story of small businesses and how the devastation from Helene was immense. I didn’t quite know how we were going to help just yet but I knew the why. Brendon immediately said yes. I then reached out to friends Jael Skeffington, Jessie Dean, Danielle Leighla Del Sordo, Adam Charnack and Brandegee Pierce who have businesses that have all been greatly impacted by the storm and asked if they’d be willing to jump in and tell their stories. In the midst of all the emotion, recovery, chaos and uncertainty, they immediately said yes. Once we decided to bring back the Asheville Mix Artist Bag with up to $2 from the sale of each bag going to fund small business in WNC to aid in their recovery and future growth, I reached out to Jeffrey Kaplan for help and direction on where those funds, once raised, should be allocated for the biggest impact and www.optimistventures.co was where we landed. The Asheville Mix Artist Bag arrived this week thanks to Belmark inc and orders will begin shipping next week. We are meeting with 4 businesses - Pirani Life, French Broad Chocolates, PBC, Hi-Wire Brewing & Asheville Tea Company to document their stories. Through the leadership of Ginger Frank with Poppy Hand-Crafted Popcorn and Jeffrey Kaplan with Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce, a fund is being established to help small businesses in their recovery.
