I am very pleased to announce the launch of Hamiltonian Artists' new leadership giving circle, the Accelerators. You may not know that our name, Hamiltonian, comes from a concept in quantum mechanics. The Hamiltonian equation represents the total energy of a system: the sum of both kinetic and potential energies. By becoming an Accelerator for just $1,500 annually, you help exponentially increase the energy of the work we are doing and that of the artists we support. I know that all charitable organizations are looking for additional support. Please give where and as you can! We made the access point for the Accelerators generally accessible as way to attract more people; more people equals more energy. DC needs artists and arts organizations, as every place does, to help facilitate conversation and create third spaces to gather. Hamiltonian is a hub for creativity in DC. Another note on our name: it also pays homage to our location on U Street NW in Washington, DC. The name Hamilton still appears in relief on our building facade. The next time you visit, look up. You'll see the name and an illustration of an old press. The location was originally home to one of the first black-owned and run printing presses in the area. The company was founded by brothers Col. West A. Hamilton and Percival Y. Hamilton in 1910 and more permanently settled into 1353 U Street NW in 1922, until the dissolution of the company in the 1970s. They ran a newspaper, The Sentinel, that gave Langston Hughes one of his first jobs. We continue to support artists in this historically-significant space. Thanks for reading and please consider supporting the arts today.

2024–2026 Fellow ? Fargo Nissim Tbakhi (b. 1997, Riverside, California) Fargo Nissim Tbakhi is a Palestinian American interdisciplinary artist currently living and working in Washington, DC, on Piscataway and Nacotchtank land. He earned his BA in Theater from Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ.?His work spans performance, poetry, fiction, criticism, installation, and community-based art; across and between these disciplines, the work seeks to imagine and enact liberatory worlds for Palestinians, those they love, and those who love them. Drawing metaphors from ancient Greek tragedy, Tbakhi’s textual works on paper interrogate the policing of Palestinian grief while affirming the steadfast spirit that drives Palestine’s pursuit of liberation amid life under siege. This past weekend we had the pleasure of hosting?Strathmore arts?x?Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company Arts and Social Justice Fellows for an inside look at new.now. and The Studios. The high schoolers from DC, Maryland, and Virginia met with 2024-26 Fellows?Jermaine jET Carter?and?Fargo Nissim Tbakhi, who spoke about the inspirations behind some of their works on view. Later we swung upstairs to visit?Paloma Vianey's?studio to learn about her practice, and gain insights from her career-building journey. ASJF’s unique perspectives, curiosity and imagination made for a full morning of thoughtful reflection and art appreciation. ASJF was created in 2022 as part of Strathmore and Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company’s co-presentation of?Octavia E. Butler’s “Parable of the Sower”?by Toshi Reagon and Bernice Johnson Reagon. This educational program supports youth leadership at the intersection of arts and social change, and seeks to identify the next generation of artists whose activism reflects Butler’s dynamic lineage.??#HamiltonianArtists #woollymammoth?#strathmoreart . . . . . #washingtondc?#youthempowerment?#art?#galleryvisit #studiovisit?#contemporaryart?#contemporaryartist #creativedc?#artsy?#hyperallergic?#contemporarycreatives
