The new green benches installed at the 112 Southampton Shelter in Boston, MA serve as a great example of sustainability in repurposing the former iconic “Green Stairs” from the Boston Society for Architecture into a community amenity. Our landscape architect Iris (Yung-Ching) Lin worked with the Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC), Juann Khoory Design Studio, and See You in the Future Collective in redesigning the courtyard for shelter guests, which reopened last year. During the design process, we worked with Juann Khoory to transform the Green Stairs into benches, seamlessly integrating them into the courtyard design. The 13-ton steel staircase was dismantled by BSA earlier this year, refinished into benches, and installed over the summer. https://ow.ly/4bRQ50THViK

We are partnering with the New Hampshire Department of Natural and Cultural Resources (DNCR) to develop a comprehensive assessment of Mount Washington State Park’s 58.8 acres of land at the summit, including natural resources, facilities, infrastructure, and areas of environmental concern. Our team is also working with DNCR and the University of New Hampshire’s Survey Center to develop a visitor experience survey. Once complete, the study will provide a roadmap for environmentally impactful projects to preserve the summit’s sensitive alpine resources, while exploring opportunities for improved facilities and visitor experience. https://ow.ly/sH4S50TA8zH

Iris (Yung-Ching) Lin joined other experts from ULI Boston/New England on a Technical Assistance Panel, working with the City of Salem, Massachusetts to make recommendations on mobility-oriented development for a planned MBTA stop. These Technical Assistance Panels are?a one-day advisory program to provide insight for municipal planning and economic development. Iris and other panel members presented an overview of the project area, challenges and opportunities, and made recommendations such as land use policy, phases of development, and financial feasibility, which will culminate in a final report to be issued by ULI.?

On Monday, Richard Houghton helped lead a walking tour of the East Milton Square Reconstruction Project as part of American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC)/MA’s Engineering & Public Works Roadshow. Partnering with Howard Stein Hudson, the Town of Milton and MassDOT, our landscape architects improved landscape open space, bicycle and pedestrian connections across East Milton Square by creatively re-envisioning Manning Community Park, while also creating new amenities for residents. https://ow.ly/MwWH50TvKmw

Our landscape architects joined Friends Of The Public Garden on Tuesday to celebrate a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Boston Public Garden’s newly restored Child Fountains and Arlington Street entrance. Now fully constructed, the project thoughtfully revitalized the fountain area by upgrading the fountain pools, replacing the water circulation system, and updating the landscape and walkways.

We were proud to join City of Quincy officials, Quincy veterans, and other attendees at the recent dedication of the Quincy Navy Park at Squantum in Quincy, MA, which included the unveiling of the Lone Sailor Statue. Our team served as the landscape architects for the project, utilizing a design that incorporates elements that honor the significant naval history of the site and notable Quincy veterans. The park is centered around the Lone Sailor statue, the first in Massachusetts and one of 19 across the world, that honors the Sailors and Marines who have served. https://ow.ly/3nhr50SYtPl

Our #landscapearchitecture team recently celebrated the groundbreaking of the new town green in Dedham, Massachusetts with our project partners from the Town of Dedham of Dedham, PCA and TEC, Inc. (TheEngineeringCorp.com). The Town is repurposing the site of the former police station into a new open space, serving as a flexible civic destination that complements the vibrant downtown district while reflecting the history of Dedham. The design includes green infrastructure, including rain gardens, raised planting beds, and an “Urban Wild” tree planting to create a sense of natural habitat within its urban context. Last night, the BSLA/Boston Society of Landscape Architects honored our landscape architects’ work on the campus redesign of Bristol County Agricultural High School with a Merit Award in General Design. The campus transformation included extensive landscape design which included new outdoor spaces, sustainable design practices to conserve rainwater and preserve existing trees, and a new accessible pedestrian spine to connect North and South Campuses.
