Landfall is forecast for this afternoon at the current intensity, a Category 1 Hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 90 mph. A Hurricane Warning is in effect for the Louisiana coast between the Cameron/Vermilion county border and Grand Isle. A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for several areas including: ? Louisiana coast between Sabine Pass and the Cameron/Vermilion county border ? Grand Isle, Louisiana, to the Mississippi/Alabama border (including New Orleans) ? Lake Pontchartrain and Lake Maurepas A Storm Surge Warning is in effect for several areas including: ? Cameron, Louisiana to the Mississippi/Alabama border ? Vermillion Bay, Lake Maurepas, and Lake Pontchartrain Peak Storm Surge is expected to reach 5 to 10 feet above ground level between the Rockefeller Wildlife Refuge and Port Fourchon, Louisiana and in Vermillion Bay. CAT Alert: Tropical Storm Francine The National Hurricane Center has issued Advisory 8 at 10:00 AM CDT regarding Tropical Storm Francine. The current estimated intensity is 65 mph, just below the 74 mph threshold for a Category 1 Hurricane. Development has thus far been slower than prior advisories forecast, however, the NHC is reporting that satellite and radar imagery show Francine is becoming more organized and the expectation is that an upgrade to a Category 1 Hurricane should occur by later today. The anticipated shift to a north-northeastward track has occurred and Francine is currently moving at about 8 mph. Conditions for intensification are optimal during the next 24 to 30 hours, after which, intensification should level off prior to landfall. The NHC forecast has shifted slightly east of prior advisories and the landfall intensity is currently expected to be approximately 90 mph, which is within the classification of a Category 1 Hurricane (96 mph is the breakpoint for a Category 2 Hurricane). A Hurricane Warning is in effect for the Louisiana coast between Sabine Pass and Grand Isle. A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for several areas including: ? High Island to Sabine Pass ? La Pesca, Mexico, to the mouth of the Rio Grande River to Port Mansfield, Texas ? Grand Isle, Louisiana, to the Mississippi/Alabama border (including New Orleans) ? Lake Pontchartrain and Lake Maurepas A Storm Surge Warning is in effect for several areas including: ? High Island, Texas, to the Mississippi/Alabama border ? Vermillion Bay, Lake Maurepas, and Lake Pontchartrain Peak Storm Surge is expected to reach 5 to 10 feet above ground level between the Rockefeller Wildlife Refuge and Port Fourchon, Louisiana and in Vermillion Bay.
