HHI is closed today in honor of Indigenous Peoples Day. It’s important to remember Indigenous people face food insecurity rates more than double the national average. More than a third of Indigenous children face food insecurity. You can help by supporting the Native American Food Sovereignty Alliance. https://lnkd.in/gEbW3EPf.

Our very own member, Amanda Hernandez from Finca Taína & Hall Hunger Initiative, joined an incredible lineup of young leaders at the 2024 Ohio Food Policy Network Summit! Hosted by the @ohiostsustain Institute at Ohio State and John Glenn College, Amanda participated in the “Cultivating the Future” panel, which focused on the vital role of policy and advocacy in shaping the future of food and agriculture. At this week’s presidential debate, one candidate made baseless inflammatory comments about immigrants Springfield. The results of those comments have been serious and dangerous. Various schools, government offices and businesses in Springfield shut down after those remarks because of violent threats. Haitian parents kept children home from school. This is the latest in the trend of violence and hatred directed towards immigrants and extremist language is a major cause. At the Hall Hunger Initiative, we recognize that discrimination is a root cause of poverty and hunger in America. Dehumanizing a group of people is the first step towards abusing them. We believe every person deserves respect and dignity. We stand with our immigrant neighbors and all those who are struggling to build a better life, free from violence and hunger. We may not all be in the same boat but we are in the same storm.

HHI is excited for the first growing season of Finca Taína, made possible by a generous grant from @Yellow Springs Community Foundation and support from Rain Brothers LLC. HHI team members Amanda Hernandez and Xavier Duprey are using space at @agraria_farm to raise fresh, healthy food and strengthen our local food system. Thanks to all who made this growing project a success! "Perhaps one of the most difficult skills for people to develop is to “self regulate and accept feedback.” It is important to not be afraid to look up information or ask for help when you don’t have all the answers." Incredibly proud of our friend and teacher Bruce Linebaugh as a leader in the regenerative farm movement here in SW OH. Antioch College https://lnkd.in/eT36FsiY

Local food isn't just about what's on your plate—it's about who grows it. The Miami Valley is experiencing a growth in Black and women owned farms and food businesses. By buying local, you're directly supporting these businesses and their families, creating economic opportunities and preserving cultural heritage. Let's cultivate a future where everyone thrives, starting with the food we choose. #EatFreshBuyLocal #LocalFood #SupportFarmers #DiversityInFarming #Farming
