Making the most of the UK’s renewable energy potential.

关于我们

We’re supporting the decarbonisation of the UK by enabling the scale build-out of renewable energy generation and the electrification of the economy. This is essential if we’re to meet net-zero targets and respond to the climate emergency. Our team has significant experience in designing, developing and building major infrastructure projects, while our engineering and project managers have developed and delivered large capital projects in the energy and infrastructure sectors. We’re part of Windward Energy group, which also includes a number of clean energy companies across the UK. Windward Energy group was founded in 2018.

A welcome intervention in the net zero debate from Lord Adair Turner, discussing the key issues facing countries across the world in transitioning to renewables – critical in responding to climate change. Lord Turner sets out ‘seasonal balance’ as one of the key challenges – particularly in north west Europe, and the solution being gas turbines, powered by hydrogen, supporting wind and solar in powering homes, businesses, industry and transport. With an increased focus on electricity for powering homes, businesses, industry and transport, it’s critical that the UK has all the electricity it needs, when it needs it. At Haldane Energy, we’re developing Long Duration Electricity Storage (#LDES) projects to respond to that very challenge. Our projects will use excess renewable energy to produce green hydrogen via electrolysis, transporting it by underground pipeline to geological storage. Then at times when electricity demand is high and cannot be met by energy from renewable sources, the green hydrogen will be transported by underground pipeline to a flexible hydrogen generator, where it will be used as fuel – delivering dependable, #dispatchable and #flexible low-carbon generation, available when the UK needs it most. #NetZero #RenewableEnergy #SustainableFuture #ClimateAction https://lnkd.in/eGkHAY6T

We are proud to have engaged with the authors of this report, which sets out the critical steps needed to decarbonise the GB electricity system and provide clean power by 2030. It is great to see an acknowledgement of the role that geological hydrogen storage and flexible hydrogen generation will play in delivering low-carbon long-duration electricity storage, capable of underpinning supply during multi-week periods of low wind and/or high electricity demand and making the most of the excess renewable generation. At Haldane Energy, we are proposing Hydrogen Long Duration Electricity Storage (#LDES) projects that will help turn excess renewable energy into dependable, dispatchable and flexible low carbon generation when it’s needed most. A radical approach is required from government to drive the major infrastructure and system transformation needed to decarbonise the GB electricity system and provide clean power by 2030, according to a new report from our National Engineering Policy Centre (NEPC), published today. Compiled by an independent working group led by the Royal Academy of Engineering and supported by a grant from the Gatsby Charitable Foundation, the report highlights the need for government to clearly set out the value of this target as a national mission, in a similar way to the work of the vaccines task force. Delivery of a highly decarbonised electricity system by 2030 will require a sharp increase in offshore wind capacity, as well as ensuring delivery of the transmission network that is already in train, and expanding onshore wind and solar generation, particularly in places where the grid already has capacity to accept new generation. The report also highlights changes to a future energy system that, although they cannot be delivered before 2030, will still require action this decade - such as expanding carbon capture and storage projects and achieving progress on hydrogen transmission.
