Our 2025 Climate Resilience & Food Security in Africa Fellowship just completed their first residency week here in Nairobi. Check out a preview of the game-changing resources the cohort received during their time together: ?? Skill series led by industry experts on partnership management, human-centered design for African climate ventures, early-stage investing for climate startups, leadership values, pitching, alternatives to equity for climate startups, knowing your customer and identifying your customer journey, defining impact, and impact measurement. ?? Introductions to key organizations such as SNDBX | The Village Experts and Amazon Web Services (AWS), where they received specific AWS use cases, and a Founder-to-CEO session with Jehiel Oliver of Hello Tractor. ??Events including an Investor Dinner to network with investors in the African food and climate technology sector, as well as additional group bonding activities throughout the week. ??Pitch practices with curated, iterative feedback to refine their storytelling strategies. ?? The Halcyon team wrapped up Day Three of the Africa Tech Summit with exciting panels and networking with attendees eager to make the most of their time here in Kenya. Our own Mercy Erhiawarien took the stage again for the second part of a Showcase panel with African founders and other investors. In another highlight, Halcyon hosted an exclusive happy hour event for guests at Sarit Center, where the team continued to explore building sustainable impact on the African continent. In all, we were proud to participate as sponsors of the Summit and connect with likeminded partners, stakeholders, community members, and Halcyon alums Michael Ogundare, Golden Nhunhama, Josephine Adeti, and Chidalu Onyenso. The Halcyon team is live at the Africa Tech Summit in Nairobi. ?? Day One kicked off with Founders Day, including a quick-fire chat between Marcelo Homrich and Hello Tractor's Jehiel Oliver, where they discussed the challenges and opportunities faced by climate entrepreneurs on the African continent. After a lively conversation, participants had the opportunity to network and join other panels relevant to their journeys.?The evening concluded with a welcome reception with remarks from the organizing team, Mastercard. Day Two was the first day of the full summit. The team heard James Mwangi, CEO of Africa Climate Ventures, speak about technology opportunities at the frontier of climate positive growth. We were glad to hear developments and insights from James following the fireside chat he participated in with Daniel J. Barker last year during Halcyon's Africa Climate program. Next, Halcyon's own Mercy Erhiawarien took the stage for a showcase panel with Africa’s Rising AgriTech startups, and later, Halcyon alum Golden Nhunhama joined to present his venture, eAgro Pvt Ltd .?Later, the team continued making meaningful connections with key players and stakeholders in the Kenya and the broader African ecosystem.?Another highlight was a panel called "AI for Africa - Growth Opportunities and Policy" with experts including Lawrence Muthoga from our friends at Amazon Web Services (AWS).
