A few more tips for mechanical design!
#3practical_eng_tips
?? Blue?- A locking element between a shaft and a bore, known as a Hub Clamp?or Keyless Clamp. For those unfamiliar, Google it! It’s a very convenient and compact element for motion transfer without the need for a keyway. In the image, you can see two types commonly used in the industry.
?? Orange?- A simple tensioning mechanism for the belt drive — just slots that allow the entire assembly to be pulled and tensioned with the desired force. How tight should it be?
In our case, hand-tightened until the belt doesn’t slip is sufficient.
There are more technically complex cases. I’m not showing what connects to the pulley on the mechanism's side to avoid clutter, but I'll let you in on a secret… it’s a linear actuator ?? (a recurring theme for me lately).
?? Green?- Simple, cheap, and effective. I just want to seal the entire mechanism against large external debris, so a basic cover with two standoffs (that's the technical term) does the trick!
