October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and we at the Haitian Ladies Network are standing together to raise awareness and support for all those affected by this disease. It affects us all—mothers, sisters, daughters, and friends. Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women, but early detection can save lives. If you’re 40 or older, it’s time to start getting regular mammograms, and if you have a family history of breast cancer, talk to your doctor about starting earlier. Be aware of the signs: ??lumps in the breast or underarm ??changes in breast size or shape ??nipple discharge, or skin changes. If you notice any of these symptoms, schedule an appointment with your healthcare provider. Early detection is key! Reach out to local health clinics or doctors to schedule your mammogram today! Information about free or low-cost mammography screening programs is also available from NCI’s Cancer Information Service at 1–800–4–CANCER (1–800–422–6237). ?? #HaitianLadiesNetwork #HLN #BreastCancerAwareness #GetScreened #KnowTheSigns #StrongerTogether #SupportAndSurvive

“I guess your assumption is that it is Haitian people that are creating the conditions in Haiti and that if the Haitian people come to Springfield they will recreate the conditions… but what I’m saying is that it is the US that has actually largely created it ???????? Ohio state police will help protect schools in Springfield as the city faces dozens of violent threats after false claims about Haitian migrants were made by former president Donald Trump and his running mate JD Vance. Republican Gov. Mike DeWine says dozens of members of the Ohio State Highway Patrol will be stationed in Springfield schools starting Tuesday, sweeping each building every morning before the arrival of faculty or students. Springfield City Hall, several schools, and state motor vehicle offices in Springfield were forced to evacuate last week after receiving bomb threats. DeWine says at least 33 separate bomb threats were made in recent days, all of them hoaxes. ~ NPR #HaitianLadiesNetwork #HLN #Haiti #Ohio #GOP #Immigration

Vice presidential nominee Sen. JD Vance (Ohio) on Monday amplified a false claim that Haitian immigrants are abducting and eating pets in Springfield, Ohio, despite the city’s police department denial of any such incidents. In a post on X, Vance published a video of him at a July Senate Banking Committee hearing, reading a letter from Springfield City Manager Bryan Heck detailing the city’s challenges in keeping up w/ housing for a growing Haitian immigrant population. Vance added a reference to a now-debunked social media post. “Months ago, I raised the issue of Haitian illegal immigrants draining social services & generally causing chaos all over Springfield, Ohio. Reports now show that people have had their pets abducted & eaten by people who shouldn’t be in this country. Where is our border czar?” he wrote. Those reports are largely based on social media postings that were picked up by national figures including Charlie Kirk and Elon Musk over the weekend. “In response to recent rumors alleging criminal activity by the immigrant population in our city, we wish to clarify that there have been no credible reports or specific claims of pets being harmed, injured or abused by individuals within the immigrant community. Additionally, there have been no verified instances of immigrants engaging in illegal activities such as squatting or littering in front of residents’ homes. Furthermore, no reports have been made regarding members of the immigrant community deliberately disrupting traffic,” Heck told The Hill. “This is the same old anti-Black playbook that we’ve seen for hundreds of years in Ohio being rolled out to divide & create hate, especially around election times,” said Erik Crew, staff attorney at the Haitian Bridge Alliance and a Cincinnati native with Springfield roots. “White supremacist and anti-democratic movements have always used the claim that so-called Black savages are coming to destroy, especially when political power is up for grabs. This is no different. This time they are saying it is Haitians, and this time it is being used to try to score political points around immigration as well.” ~BY RAFAEL BERNAL , The Hill #HaitianLadiesNetwork #HLN #Haiti #GOP #Immigration #Ohio

The U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctioned the former President of Haiti, Michel Joseph Martelly (Martelly), pursuant to Executive Order (E.O.) 14059 of December 15, 2021, “Imposing Sanctions on Foreign Persons Involved in the Global Illicit Drug Trade.” “Today’s action against Martelly emphasizes the significant and destabilizing role he and other corrupt political elites have played in perpetuating the ongoing crisis in Haiti,” said Acting Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Bradley T. Smith. “The United States, along with our international partners, is committed to disrupting those who facilitate the drug trafficking, corruption, and other illicit activities fueling the horrific gang violence and political instability.” The existence of widespread gang activity and human rights abuses in Haiti creates a permissive environment for drug trafficking activities, and the country is a transit point for illicit drugs entering the United States. Many of Haiti’s political and business elites have long been involved in drug trafficking and have been linked to the gangs responsible for the violence that has destabilized Haiti. The United States is committed to promoting accountability and charting a more prosperous, democratic, and secure future for all Haitians. Martelly abused his influence to facilitate the trafficking of dangerous drugs, including cocaine, destined for the United States. Additionally, Martelly engaged in the laundering of illicit drug proceeds, worked with Haitian drug traffickers, and sponsored multiple Haiti-based gangs. Martelly was previously sanctioned by the Government of Canada on November 17, 2022. #HaitianLadiesNetwork #HLN #Haiti #Sanctions #Ayiti #President
