"A few nights ago, a new not-for-profit stood up in Panama City. Impact 100 Gulf Coast is a new local chapter of international organization of women that give $100,000 grants to local charities. More info here: https://lnkd.in/gquQPvyT When I first heard about it, I was blown away by the concept. It’s impressive. The goal is to get one hundred women members to donate $1000 every year so they can give away a $100,000 transformative grant to a local charity organization. Membership is on a year-to-year basis and every member has an equal say in who is awarded each grant. To me, that makes it special and super egalitarian. A person at a higher income level can’t donate more money or have a bigger say in who gets the money. All members are equal. With this formula, teachers and hairdressers donating $83 a month alongside business women and community leaders to make significant change in the community and have a voice in where the money goes. Impact 100 Gulf Coast set a record last night for the most first year members in the Impact 100 Global’s history. They got 307 women to donate $1000 each so they can give out three $100,000 grants in the community next year. Amy Myers was one of the driving forces behind this success. I watch this from nascent beginnings when Amy told me about it while driving in my car to the Port meeting one day last year. She was trying to figure out who to get on the board, who to approach for membership, and how to make this happen. Well, they made it happen. And it’s impressive.
