have you ever wanted to talk to a bank? i just came back from HackUTD Ripple Effect, which ended up being the 2nd largest hackathon in the US this year with over 1.1k participants and over 275 projects submitted. in 24 hours, Bill Zhang, Lisa Juan, and I built "TalkTuah Bank", a voice-based banking assistant that democratizes financial services by making them accessible to everyone, regardless of their technological capabilities or geographical location. you can check out the devpost here! https://lnkd.in/eezDKx97 despite being a teammate down, we managed to come out of this hackathon winning 1ST PLACE overall, and 1st place in the Goldman Sachs financial track. it's still quite surreal, but i'm super glad our work paid off! huge thumbs up to the HackUTD organizers for making this the best hackathon i've ever attended. they were super accommodating to such a large volume of participants, and really made this event an unforgettable one. i'll definitely be back next year!

It was an absolute honor to help sponsor HackUTD this year! Over 1100 students came from all over the country to prove their skills and creativity. I personally had a blast showing young developers what’s possible with Pinata, and in turn they showed up with some amazing apps that pushed what’s possible with our product. There are so many bright futures ahead of them and we can’t wait to see where they go! ?? Huge thanks to Ridwan Amin and the team for putting on one of the most polished hackathon experiences we’ve seen so far! ?

This weekend, I got to revisit my alma mater, The University of Texas at Dallas, for HackUTD, this time as part of the Pinata team! ?? Walking around campus brought back so many memories (and wow, it’s grown so much!). But what really stood out was the insane energy and passion from over a thousand student developers who showed up to build, create, and push boundaries. ???? Huge shoutout to Ridwan Amin and the entire team for putting on such a well-run event. It’s awesome to see UTD continuing to foster this kind of innovation. ?? ?

?? HackUTD 2024: Ripple Effect – Introducing ResourceSync ?? This weekend, I had the incredible opportunity to participate in HackUTD 2024, the 2nd largest hackathon in the United States, with over 1,000 participants coming together to innovate and create impactful solutions. This was my third hackathon of the year and my third hackathon ever, making it an unforgettable milestone! Our project, ResourceSync, is a responsive web app designed to empower users to monitor water usage, detect leaks, and promote sustainability. ?? What We Built Frontend: Built using HTML, CSS (Bootstrap), and JavaScript for a responsive and intuitive user experience across all devices. Backend: Powered by Django to handle secure data storage, real-time updates, and seamless API integration. Key Features: Leak Alerts: Real-time notifications to prevent water waste and damage. Chatbot Assistance: Offers water conservation tips and usage guidance. Interactive Dashboard: Displays live water data and historical trends. ??? Future Device Development Although we couldn’t fully implement the hardware component during the hackathon, we conceptualized a smart device using ESP32 for real-time water sensing and a DC motor to automatically shut off water flow in case of leaks. This hardware integration will be a focus for future development to further enhance the solution. ?? Highlights and Lessons Built a responsive app for seamless use on any device. Integrated IoT hardware for real-time monitoring and actionable insights. Implemented a user-friendly chatbot to enhance engagement. Learned to manage real-time data flow, optimize responsive design, and connect IoT systems with web applications. ?? What’s Next for ResourceSync React Integration: Upgrade the frontend for scalability and interactivity. Add water quality monitoring and energy-efficient features. Partner with smart home systems and expand to larger communities. ?? Why ResourceSync Matters Water scarcity is a global challenge, and ResourceSync helps tackle it by enabling users to track, conserve, and optimize water usage. Together, we can make every drop count! ?? Try it out: https://lnkd.in/gTadi26T ?? Check out our devpost : https://lnkd.in/gsDQScQG A special thanks to my amazing teammates, Nur Mahi and Tahmid Hossain, for their hard work, creativity, and collaboration throughout this hackathon. This project wouldn’t have been possible without you guys! HackUTD 2024 was an incredible journey of learning and innovation, and I’m proud to have contributed to a solution that fosters sustainability. ?? #HackUTD #ResourceSync #WaterSustainability #WebApp #HackathonJourney

I’m so excited to share that Team Promising Products—myself, Julian Spindola, Joshua Ludolf, and Jonathon Davis—placed 2nd in the Frontier Internet Track at HackUTD 2024, the LARGEST 24 HOUR HACKATHON IN NORTH AMERICA !!! The inspiration for the Promising-Products project stemmed from the need to create a robust and innovative platform that could leverage advanced technologies to provide personalized product recommendations. I worked on the Machine Learning aspect of this application. Based off of Amazon's recommendation system, I researched Collaborative Filtering to make a hybrid model based on Memory and Model algorithms. Here's the link to the devpost: https://lnkd.in/gaayBcCW. A big thank you to Frontier Internet for giving us this amazing opportunity and for your valuable feedback on our project. Your insights have given us great ideas and a clear path to improve and grow Promising Products in the future! I also want to shout out our amazing friends Andrew Gonzalez, Hugo Padilla Cuadros, and Eric ( Team Hermes ), who placed 2nd in the PNC track! What an achievement!! It’s an honor to represent the ACM, Association for Computing Machinery chapter at Texas A&M University-San Antonio with such an incredible group of talented individuals at one of the most sought after Hackathons! Finally, thank you HackUTD !! For hosting such a phenomenal event! From the competition to the networking opportunities, it was an experience I’ll never forget.

?? Hit the Trifecta with the Win at HackUTD Ripple Effect! ?? HackUTD, the largest hackathon in North America, ?had over 270 project submissions this year. We’re beyond excited to share that our team won Best Beginner Hack, being top project among 64 submissions in our track, and placing us in the top 6% of all projects in the hackathon! ?? I've participated in three hackathons so far, and I’m proud to say I've won all three! Going into HackUTD, I thought this might be the one to break my streak, especially since we hadn't tackled any MLH tracks and one of my teammates had to join at the last minute as a walk-in. But despite the challenges, I'm thrilled to share that my winning streak is still going strong! ???? ?? ?About Our Project: Our app focuses sustainability by analyzing videos of office spaces to detect, classify, and assess the condition of furniture. It highlights signs of wear and tear and provides eco-friendly repair suggestions—helping reduce costs and minimize environmental impact while offering location-based suggestions to ensure tailored, relevant solutions for users. ?? My Contribution: I worked on backend development, leveraging cutting-edge technologies to deliver a seamless user experience: - Llama: Processed video frames, detected damage, created detailed reports, and powered a chatbot for user inquiries. - Pinata: Used for secure video frame storage via IPFS, ensuring reliable data handling. - Google Maps API: Integrated to provide precise geolocation services, enabling location-based service suggestions for an enhanced and relevant user experience. ?? Check out our project demo: https://lnkd.in/g-jW96mv ?? ?Learn more about our project: https://lnkd.in/gtAhhw5k ? Gratitude & Acknowledgements A huge thank you to CBRE for providing the challenge that inspired our innovation! ?? Special thanks to: - Hayley Murphy, Arjun Balaji, and Anish Devineni—it was wonderful reconnecting with you all! - SambaNova Systems and Pinata for the powerful tools that brought our vision to life. - Zaquariah Holland for your invaluable mentorship and guidance—your support was truly crucial to our success. ?? Lastly, a heartfelt shoutout to my amazing teammates—Arshia Puri, Charumitha Yuvaraja, and Tejashree Reddi. I’m so proud to share that we were the only all-women team to win an award this year. You made this project possible! ?? This hackathon was a truly transformative experience filled with learning, growth, and innovation. Thank you so much HackUTD for organising this amazing hackathon! Here’s to more wins, sustainable solutions, and future opportunities! ???? #HackUTD #Sustainability #TechInnovation #BestBeginnerHack #WomenInTech #LlamaAI #IPFS #GoogleCloudAPI #CBRE #SambaNova #Pinata #TechCommunity #TechForGood
