This H&M-backed materials startup is closing the loop to recycle textiles at hyperscale Polyester is the biggest and fastest growing textile fiber. Yet polyester is also the biggest CO2 emitter, accounting for up to 40% of the textile industry’s total CO2 emissions. What if the textiles we create, use, and throw away are reborn into new, high-quality textile products ensuring an infinite cycle of the past and the future. Enter?Syre. A textile impact company decarbonizing and dewasting the industry through textile-to-textile recycling. At hyperscale. Before their CEO,?Dennis Nobelius?takes to the stage at the?HackSummit?in New York this December, he told us: - How they landed a contract with H&M worth?$600m in revenue - Why they’re creating?regional recycling loops?in US, Europe, Africa, SE Asia - Which categories (after fashion) they’re going for next And now you can too. How two Minerva University alumni are capturing CO2 emissions from ships Ocean shipping quite literally drives the global economy. 50,000 vessels carry?90%?of the world’s cargo. But the sector is a major driver of global warming and environmental and human health risks. Shipping emissions are headed in the wrong direction. At current growth rates, it could represent up to?10%?of global greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Decarbonising ocean shipping will be a mammoth undertaking. Future fuels have yet to prove scale, efficiency solutions are insufficient, and slow steaming just pushes off the inevitable, leaving shipowners with limited viable options. Could a retrofittable system be a pathway to decarbonise the commercial shipping industry? Seabound?thinks so. The UK-based startup is building carbon capture equipment for large cargo ships as their retrofittable device traps CO? emissions from a ship’s exhaust gas. Before Alisha Fredriksson joins us at the HackSummit in NYC we caught up to hear: ?? How they capture CO2 onboard and leave it locked in limestone ?? The benefits of modularizing their carbon capture system ?? How they are balancing VC returns with progress ?? Their positive outlook to decarbonising shipping Read the full article to get the backstory on Seabound, and what they're working on next: https://lnkd.in/e9hjwkub
