? hackNY Alumni Spotlight ? Meet Walter Menendez, who now currently works as a data engineer at GIPHY in NYC.?Walter joined the hackNY Fellows class of 2014 where he interned at MongoDB as a fellow.?He graduated from MIT in 2015 and was a hackNY mentor in 2021. ?Why did you apply to hackNY? I met members of hackNY when I was interning at Tumblr in 2013 and I got curious about it. So when applications opened, I decided to apply! ?? What's your favorite memory as a hackNY Fellow? My first night moving back to New York, I met up with some alumni from the class of 2014 at Congee Dim Sum house and then somehow ended up out until 3 am. ?? How has hackNY helped you? I only really work at hackNY approved companies. It’s been so far a very strong positive signal in my career. ?? Why would you recommend hackNY to folks? A paid internship, free housing, free food, free lecture series with people that you would otherwise never get to hear from. There are so few negatives. *Note: paid internship, free housing may not be guaranteed. ?? Any advice for this year’s applicants? As an app reader, I can tell when a person gave us what they think we want to hear because it reads very cheesy. Give us authentic answers that you actually believe in and that actually represent who you are! ?Applications for the hackNY 2024 Fellowship close on Jan 15th! ?
