At our 2025 Building Hope Luncheon, we were deeply honored to present the David McAlpin Humanitarian Award to Reverend Terrell Person of Jacob’s Chapel AME Church in Mt. Laurel. Named in honor of our dear friend and Trenton Area Habitat founder, the David McAlpin Award recognizes individuals whose lives reflect an unshakeable commitment to social justice, equity, and community empowerment—values Dave championed throughout his life. For over 30 years, Rev. Person has embodied those same values by preserving Black history, leading historic restoration efforts at Jacob’s Chapel, mentoring youth through Project T.I.M.E., and amplifying the voices of the past through storytelling, education, and advocacy. ???? Project Update from Habitat SCNJ! ?? Construction is moving forward on our 3 duplex, 6-unit modular development in Cinnaminson, NJ! Each home will be purchased by a partner family who will invest sweat equity and buy their home with an affordable mortgage, building strength, stability, and self-reliance. Special thanks to our incredible partners at PHNX Development Partners for leading the modular construction on this transformative project. Stay tuned for more project updates!

At this year’s Building Hope Luncheon, we were proud to present our 2025 Corporate Philanthropy Award to Freedom Mortgage for their unwavering commitment to affordable housing and community development. Their Vice President of Public Relations, Ellen, and Corporate Recruiter, Ed Maldonado, who grew up in a Habitat home and holds this cause close to his heart, accepted the award on behalf of Freedom Mortgage. From generous financial support to hands-on volunteerism, their team has gone above and beyond, supporting special builds like Women Build and Veteran Build, lending their skills to both new home construction and critical repairs through our Neighborhood Revitalization Program. Thanks to Freedom Mortgage’s dedication, more families have achieved the dream of homeownership and more neighbors are able to stay in their homes with dignity. Wrapping Up a Successful Almost Home Program Winter 2025! ?? Over the past ten weeks, we’ve had the incredible opportunity to guide 56 participants through our Almost Home Program, designed to assist those interested in our affordable homeownership program but who may need additional education and resources to meet program requirements. Thank you to Joshua Cressman from Operation Hope for his presentation on becoming a first-time home buyer! In addition to Joshua’s expertise, we provided an in-depth look at HFHSCNJ’s affordable homeownership program, answering many important questions. The enthusiasm and gratitude from participants reaffirm why we do this work of helping families take meaningful steps toward homeownership. By the end of the program, participants earned their Almost Home Completion Certificate and a HUD-Approved First-Time Homebuyer Certificate, marking a significant step in their journey toward homeownership! ???? Women Build 2025 | International Women’s Day ???? This #InternationalWomensDay, we came together for Women Build, celebrating strength, community, and empowerment! A huge THANK YOU to the incredible women—individual volunteers, mothers and daughters, sisters, corporate groups, and even a future Habitat homeowner—who joined us to build picnic tables for future Habitat partner families. By learning construction skills and working side by side, we’re proving that when women support each other, we can build stronger homes, stronger communities, and a stronger future.
