Yesterday, Habitat Affiliates from across Georgia made history as, for the first time, we built the frame of a house on our Capitol's front lawn. Over 100 people, including legislators, volunteers, Habitat staff members, and sponsors showed up to start a build for another family. Habitat for Humanity of Georgia, Inc., Habitat for Humanity of NW Metro Atlanta, Atlanta Habitat for Humanity, Southern Crescent Habitat for Humanity, Habitat Savannah In Georgia, we have a lack of starter homes. One in seven people in this state are housing cost-burdened, paying more than 30% of their income on housing. Habitat for Humanity is seeking to address the affordable housing crisis, as we strive to build homes, communities, and hope across Georgia and the nation. Part of what makes our home dedications so heartwarming is all of the community members who come together to support and celebrate our homebuyers. Anne Marie Francis of the Cumming Sunset Quilters has been donating quilts to our homeowners for several years. Their quilts add a warm touch to our homebuyers' new homes. Saint Brigid has shown us tremendous generosity over the years in the form of both funds and volunteers. Every year, they host a fundraiser where parishioners can buy a puzzle piece that makes up a portrait of the family. We are grateful for Greenworks providing new tools to all of our partner families, and to Capital City Home Loans, LLC for partnering with us to originate and close our home loans. And for bringing delicious food to our dedications. ?? Donald and his wife helped sponsor these families and we could not be more grateful for their generosity. We love our Habitat family. Congrats to our two newest homeowners! “I've been working hard as a single mom to provide for my girls so I can give them the life they deserve. An acquaintance told me about Habitat for Humanity, so I volunteered with my two oldest daughters last April. My girls are my life, the reason I am fighting. My hope was to finally be able to afford and own our own home, a place of stability, a place we could live in and subside in. God has always been our strength.
