For children, home is so much more than a house. It’s where they play, where they get help with homework, where they watch movies with siblings. It’s where holidays and birthdays seem to light up brightest, and where they feel safest. Halwa, a recent Habitat Omaha homeowner, would add that home is where their future really takes hold. “I always told my kids, ‘One day we’ll buy a house,’” she said. “Then, that ‘one day’ came.” “A home is the bare minimum of where a child’s future is determined,” Halwa said. “My son now says he wants to buy a house when he grows up.
