#ScienceThursday | We all know that water has three forms: solid, liquid, and gas. However, a groundbreaking new study reveals that there might be a fourth form: a strange phase of ice known as "plastic ice VII." The research team, led by Livia Bove from Sorbonne University, reports that plastic ice forms under extremely high pressures and temperatures over 450 Kelvin. The study opens fascinating new pathways into understanding how water behaves in extreme planetary environments. #ProjectMonday | Snapshots of the water system commissioning at St Edwards School in Awebdo, Kenya last week. The school’s new safe water system will provide safe water for 658 staff and students and their families, along with thousands of people in Awendo and the surrounding communities. The school has been fighting an uphill battle to care for its students since its opening. However, the new water system will empower Awendo’s children to succeed in school and reach for bright futures. The school and the Awendo community worked alongside our team through every step of the project. After the project was completed, our Kenya team brought the community together to learn about water safety, hygiene, and water system maintenance. We’re looking forward to seeing St Edwards School thrive! #safewater #safewaterforall #water #waterislife #donate #school #volunteer #community

Happy #InternationalWomensDay to friends and followers around the world! In order to #AccelerateAction for women and girls in water-stressed communities, it’s not enough to talk about empowerment. We need to start by ensuring that women in the developing world have the tools and resources to empower themselves and their daughters. H2O4ALL is committed to using our safe water initiatives to remove barriers to equality and empower women to change the world around them. #safewater #water #herpotentialourpriority #accelerateaction #safewaterforall #internationalwomensday2025

#ScienceThursday | The city of Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso is surrounded by a "green belt" - a ring of vegetation protecting the city from the encroaching desert. Burkina Faso has been struggling with desertification for decades, as droughts, heat waves, and degraded land force thousands of people out of their homes to move towards less degraded areas. Since the 1970s, the city's green belt has gradually grown to include 2,000 hectares of gardens, orchards and irrigation systems, including countless small plots managed by locals. These gardens not only help keep the city cool and provide local produce, but they also bring new work opportunities to people affected by the country's ongoing struggle with climate change. #ProjectMonday | Today, we're proud to officially open the Ken Brock Memorial Project at St. Edward's School in Awendo, Kenya! A new water system at St. Edward Special School will provide safe water for 658 people at the school, and thousands of people in Awendo and the surrounding communities. The staff at St Edward's have provided a safe home for vulnerable children since 2006. However, the dire water scarcity in the area has turned providing for their students into an uphill battle. The new safe water system will empower teachers and staff to create a safe and healthy environment where kids can reach for a bright future. We thank our friends at St. Edward's School and our partners in the Awendo community, as well as our donors across the world, for making this project possible. #safewater #safewaterforall #water #waterislife #donate #school #volunteer #community

#ProjectMonday | We're excited to say that the Ken Brock Memorial Project is opening next week. St. Edward's School now has a deep borehole, two 5,000-litre water tanks, while our team is working to install solar panels and a disinfection system. The finished project will provide safe water to more than 300 children and staff members at the school, along with thousands of people in the community. After the project is done, our team members will work with local community leaders to offer water safety training to the Awendo community. The project will honor Ken Brock, an H2O4ALL board member, lawyer, and advocate for education who passed away last October. Ken’s commitment to justice, education, and sustainable change will live on through the lives touched by this project, uplifting the St Edward Special School and surrounding communities for generations to come. #safewater #safewaterforall #water #waterislife #donate #school #volunteer #community

#ScienceThursday | Alto Hospicio is a city in the Atacama Desert in Chile, the driest place on Earth. Most towns in the region rely on underground aquifers for water, while informal settlements can only receive water through trucks. However, a recent study may have found a supplementary water source for the region: fog harvesting. The study, published in Frontiers in Environmental Science, found that the fog collectors could harvest up to 5 liters of water per square meter - 10 liters during peak season - every day. Researchers hoped that the process could eventually gather enough water for hundreds of Atacama residents in need.
