We are thrilled to announce that the American Council of Engineering Companies of New York (ACEC New York) has awarded Hicksville Water District’s Plant Number 8?the Gold Engineering Excellence Award! This recognition celebrates our commitment to finding innovative solutions while meeting the District’s needs and complying with state and federal regulations. Plant Number 8 uses ultraviolet light and carbon to tackle contaminants like per- and polyfluoralkyl substances and 1,4-dioxane—both of which may have serious health effects, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. By phasing treatment technology installations across the district’s eight treatment plants, the project safeguarded water access for 48,000 residents, minimized disruptions, and prevented critical well shutdowns. This approach ensures compliance with New York’s water quality standards while prioritizing public health and sustainability. This award reflects the dedication, collaboration, and innovation of everyone involved. We are excited to announce that Chelsea Martinez presented at the 10th Annual Connecticut Section of AWWA's Water Quality and Treatment Symposium! She discussed the EPA's recent promulgation of maximum contaminant levels (MCL’s) for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and how Interim PFAS treatment design could help water suppliers comply quickly if PFAS levels rise. Her presentation, titled: "Ready, Set… Go!" detailed how the Roslyn Water District is pursuing Interim treatment design for all of their water supply wells.?This ensures that when new regulations take effect, the District has the design and Health Department approvals in place to immediately construct the interim treatment plant when elevated PFAS levels are detected.

Today marks the 25th anniversary of GIS Day, an occasion dedicated to celebrating the impact of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology. GIS plays an important role in H2M’s suite of services, allowing us to help clients catalogue, track, and manage their assets—everything from utility lines to roads to property boundaries can be mapped out in a user-friendly visualization. In recognition of GIS Day, we’re sharing an ongoing infrastructure mapping and data collection project with the Township of Jefferson, New Jersey. In order to more effectively manage its drainage collection, water distribution, and sanitary sewer collection systems, the Township hired H2M to collect the data and map the systems using GIS. Using the latest in Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) data collection equipment, H2M surveyed along approximately 190 miles of road to collect utility submeter locations of water, drainage, and sanitary sewer assets and record physical characteristics pertaining to each infrastructure system. So far, H2M has collected data on nearly 3,000 surface structures, with another 1,000 structures anticipated for inclusion in the final data product. From there, H2M will use existing plans to digitize the pipe networks, connecting the individual water, drainage, and sewer system assets to create a fuller picture of each infrastructure network.
