关于我们
The H. E. Butt Foundation serves communities in Texas and beyond with initiatives to encourage people to live whole, healthy lives. Our mission is driven by our Christian convictions, and we create opportunities for groups and individuals from diverse backgrounds. Much of our work takes place in the Texas Hill Country on 1,900 acres with a breathtaking stretch of the Frio River Canyon. There, we run five programs—a youth camp, a family camp, an adult retreat center, an outdoor education initiative, and a camp offering free facility use to select groups—that together host over 27,000 people each year.

“So much about Echoes magazine is trying to elevate the voices of people whose stories might not be told or celebrated. If we are telling the stories of transformation and wholeness that people are carrying back to their communities, we want to hear it in their voice.”— Camille Hall-Ortega This issue of Echoes is about raising voices, whether that is through the launch of The Echoes Podcast. Or through the story of Dr. Ochoa who advocates for her patients. Or hearing from experts about loneliness and how to best parent Generation Z. Or hearing from Generation Z about their mental health challenges in school. Which story are you excited to read? Let us know in the comments!

A home is more than four walls—it’s about the people who live there. What if we brought kindness back to our communities? Instead of looking away, let’s lean in. Instead of complaints, let’s offer help. A simple act can mean everything to a neighbor in need. In the latest episode of The Echoes Podcast, hear from San Antonio Affordable Housing social worker, Elizabeth Cruz, who project manages the initiative called Project Rebuild. She helps rebuild communities with care, connection, and action. https://lnkd.in/gXrgiyNj

Earlier this month, @knowyourneighborsa kicked off their Housing Summit series—Everyone Needs a Home. From landowners to government workers to those who work in the nonprofit space, neighbors gathered to ask questions and hear one another. Side by side they learned together as keynote speaker, Joe Minicozzi, spoke about the economics of community development. Much thanks to @frostbank, @urbanthree, @somos.cinco.rios, @saboardrealtors, and everyone who attended this event.

Words matter. They build us up or tear us down. They guide us and mislead us and shape how we each perceive the world. In episode 3 of The Echoes Podcast, we talk with poet and educator Olga Samples-Davis about the words we live by—and how to talk with people who live by words that are different than our own.
