Award-winning, story-based architectural design firm specializing in cultural and educational facilities.
关于我们
GWWO Architects is an award-winning architectural practice focused on client service and design excellence. A full-service firm located in Baltimore, Maryland and West Hartford, Connecticut, we specialize in providing services for cultural and educational facilities with an emphasis on responsible design that is inspirational, evocative, and progressive. Our experience spans more than forty years and includes projects throughout the United States and its territories. GWWO practices story-based design which is the focused, in-depth exploration of a project's context—cultural, historical, and physical. Our work is driven by a consistent philosophical approach, rather than a predetermined style. Our philosophy is founded in the exploration of the relationships between narrative and context. The firm's size lends itself to a "hands-on" atmosphere in which the principals are deeply involved in client service and project management. We offer a broad array of expanded services that are tailored to the individual needs of each client. We can assist from the first conceptual stages of development through final design and construction. GWWO's portfolio includes numerous museums, interpretive centers, nature centers, visitor and education centers, higher education, and K-12 projects.

Today’s rec center projects involve a mix of high-quality athletic facilities with space for creative activities, high-tech activities, public meetings, performances, food preparation and support services. They feature artful facades, welcoming interiors, high-performance systems and custom designs. Yet they are still delivered with limited budgets, broad stakeholder groups and often on distressed sites. Quoted in this story: Alliance Exterior Construction, Design Collective, Inc., GWWO Architects, Plano-Coudon Read more about the rec center projects that require a high level of ingenuity but deliver big benefits to the communities they serve in the February issue of #BCEexchange: https://ow.ly/9sHu50V4o8c

“Designing interpretive centers is no copy-paste exercise; each is purposefully conceived for the story it was made to tell, and pays heed to environmental and landscape conditions.” The Architect's Newspaper's Kristine Klein spoke with Alan Reed, FAIA, LEED AP to explore how the firm created a niche designing interpretive centers across the United States from the Florida Everglades to Niagara Falls. “You can never extract the story from the building, from the design. If buildings connect to stories, they become timeless.” Read more: https://shorturl.at/6ls1C #architecture #design #creativity #museum #visitorcenter #visitorexperience 📷: Thomas Holdsworth

How do you design a glass wall to be ... mist? What if architecture, landscape, and exhibitions were all thought of as one thing? What changes when you etch barbed wire into a handrail? How can the floor plan of an entire museum relate to a nautilus shell? What does “A.D.R.O.I.T.” stand for? Listen along as GWWO Architects’ Alan Reed, FAIA, LEED AP and Making the Museum host Jonathan Alger (C&G Partners) delve into how a building can tell a story. #gwwo #museumdesign #storybaseddesign
