We were very happy to celebrate our 100th day of school for the year this week. Students worked together to list 100 things they've learned this year, including numbers, greetings and expressions in more than a dozen different languages!

When student curiosity is encouraged and drives learning, sometimes you end up in places you didn't plan! Students in Mrs. West's Kindergarten and 1st Grade class were learning about the Mayans and how they created ways to filter water to reduce germs. Students wondered how that worked without machines or other modern technology, so they headed outside to build their own filters, using materials they could find around our building. Their response after sending some dirty water through their filter: "Whoa, that worked!" Curiosity leads to ownership of the learning process and the development of understanding that goes much deeper than simple factual knowledge. That's why it's one of our core values at GGS.

We are looking for a few more pieces for our Art Auction in October and we'd love to have you involved! If you or someone you know would like to donate art please get in touch. Donations are tax deductible and all proceeds from the auction will go towards scholarships providing a world-class bilingual elementary education to students who wouldn't be able to attend otherwise.

Curiosity is one of our core values at GGS, and we encourage our students to approach the world and everything in it with a sense of wide-eyed wonder. One way our students are doing that this year is by learning different strategies to create different textures with paint - inspired by the produce that students harvested from our school garden! Stay tuned for more info about our GGS Art Auction coming up on October 10! We'll have an in person event for anyone who's local and an online portal for anyone else!
