The incident occurred when strong winds caused the scaffolding to detach from the building, resulting in two workers falling over eight stories. This devastating accident has left Jeffrey Spyrka, a Local 1 ironworker, in critical condition in the ICU of the very hospital where he was working. Unfortunately, David O’Donnell, a Local 130 technical engineer, sustained fatal injuries in the fall. A lawsuit was filed on June 10th to ensure the preservation of crucial evidence at the job site.
