Perhaps there are no clear reasons to choose to be a psychologist. It involves hours of listening to suffering, connecting with the deepest parts of humanity in the presence of another (Sigmund Freud), glimpsing beyond the obvious, and often feeling powerless in the face of the inability to achieve awareness (Alfred Adler). Ours is not just another profession; those who come to us do not do so to bring good news (Sandor Ferenczi). They come seeking answers to their questions and a way out of their suffering (Viktor Frankl). Every day, we must be "as good as possible" for those whose lives have become impossible (William James). Anyone might say there are no reasons to be a psychologist, except that someone has to do it (Karl Jaspers). But sometimes, very occasionally, not as often as we might wish, we can witness how a patient has overcome a conflict (Paul Watzlawick), how they have resolved the avoidable or accepted the unavoidable. From time to time, we may witness (Donald Winnicott) how their life has been filled with meaning once again, how they have regained their smile (Irvin Yalom). I am thrilled to announce that Guzman Psychotherapy - US is expanding its reach by opening a new office in Barranquilla, Colombia! This is not just a new chapter for our organization, but a dream come true for me personally—to bring to my city a psychological center that embodies the same values and outstanding services we are recognized for in Atlanta. ????? Our team in Barranquilla is nearly complete and ready to also provide measurement-based care, a cutting-edge approach that ensures the highest standards of mental health services. We are committed to offering the best care, just as we do in Atlanta, and to supporting our clients in achieving their goals and improving their well-being. Our new center will also be a hub for developing research and providing opportunities for psychology students to gain hands-on experience with a global outlook. We're dedicated to nurturing the next generation of mental health professionals, right here in Barranquilla.
