We recently completed the first of our bi-annual stingray surveys at Stingray City Sandbar in Grand Cayman! Over three days, 94 stingrays were tagged and studied with the help of 28 dedicated volunteers. Led by Guy?Harvey,?Jessica Harvey?and the GHRI at Nova Southeastern University for 23 years, this is the longest-running study of a Wildlife Interactive Zone. ? Beyond its ecological importance, Stingray City is a cornerstone of the Cayman Islands’ tourism industry, with each stingray estimated to generate $500,000 per year. This unique destination showcases the balance between conservation and economic sustainability. ? This year’s fellowship provides students with a $5,000 stipend to conduct research aimed at supporting the sustainable management of marine fish.
