Donald Trump and J. D. Vance will take office not even three years after Trump-appointed US Supreme Court justices provided the deciding votes to overturn Roe. A second Trump term could be worse for SRHR and beyond. But the fight is far from over. In 2024, Dutch support for international family planning helped 8.5 million people gain access to modern contraception. But the new Dutch government has announced budget cuts for international development that threaten the crucial work of civil society organizations advancing #SRHR worldwide. We estimate in our recent Just the Numbers analysis that for every €10 million cut from sexual & reproductive health & rights, 882,000 fewer people will have access to contraception, leading to 272,000 more unintended pregnancies and 97,000 more unsafe abortions. https://gu.tt/3Zai9jo

Young trans people deserve health care that allows them to make decisions about their lives and futures with dignity. This must include access to gender-affirming care and the full spectrum of reproductive health care, including abortion. In the US, state policy attacks on trans people have increased. In 2024, more than 35 bills were introduced to restrict access to, or outright ban, gender affirming care for young people. At the federal level, President-Elect Trump has laid out plans to eliminate access to gender affirming care for minors, including by blocking physicians who provide this care from receiving federal Medicaid and Medicare funding. Young trans people deserve better, and so does anyone who needs essential health care. We must keep fighting to protect bodily autonomy for all. #TransWeek #TransAwarenessWeek #ReproductiveHealth

Today we join advocates nationwide to mark Thanks Birth Control Day. Contraception is a core component of reproductive autonomy and health care, and its use is nearly universal in the United States. People use birth control for many reasons, including to avoid pregnancy, have healthier pregnancies or help time and space births, and more. Contraception must be available to anyone who needs it, including trans and nonbinary communities, young people and those living with low incomes. The incoming Trump administration poses serious threats to SRHR, including contraceptive access. This will likely include renewed attacks on the federally funded Title X family planning program, which ensures affordable contraceptive care for millions of people. Everyone deserves access to the full range of high-quality, affordable birth control methods that work best for them. Learn more: https://gu.tt/4ho0hJ7 #ThxBirthControl #ReproductiveHealth #TransWeek

While 7 out of 10 US states passed abortion rights measures in the 2024 election, it could take more time and effort to ensure that people have access to care. Our state policy expert Kimya Forouzan, MPH, Esq. weighs in on the potential challenges ahead: "Abortion services often get talked about like a light switch. But the infrastructure needed to provide abortions is not so easy to turn on and off." Read more: https://gu.tt/4fz6AaU
