Donald Trump and J. D. Vance will take office not even three years after Trump-appointed US Supreme Court justices provided the deciding votes to overturn Roe. A second Trump term could be worse for SRHR and beyond. But the fight is far from over. Arizona is 1 of 7 states that voted to enshrine abortion rights in their state constitution. As of today, these protections are now in place. Our interactive map is up to date, with Arizona moving up to ‘Restrictive.’ This constitutional protection is a critical step towards expanding access in AZ, but the fight is not over. The state’s 15-week ban and many other restrictions are still on the books. The newly enacted protection gives advocates a legal avenue to challenge the ban and further expand access to care. Huge shoutout to the Arizona organizers who worked so hard to mobilize voters to protect abortion rights in the state constitution! Donating to abortion funds is still critically important at this time. Learn more from National Network of Abortion Funds. We will be closely monitoring Arizona’s state policies as this protection is implemented. After Iowa’s 6-week ban took effect on July 29, 2024, clinician-provided abortions in the state dropped 38% from the average number of abortions in the first 6 months of the year, according to new findings from our Monthly Abortion Provision Study. Abortion was already inaccessible for many Iowans before the ban went into effect. More than 1 in 5 Iowa abortion patients traveled out of state for care in 2023, as our data show. Iowans deserve better. Learn more about the ban’s impact with our interactive dashboard: https://gu.tt/4dnYPED #AbortionAccess #ReproductiveHealth
