After the signing ceremony, we had the pleasure of showing our new Army partners around our Cortland sawmill. They got a firsthand look at how lumber is made, from start to finish. Sustainable Forestry: Responsible forest management practices, such as selective harvesting, ensure that forests continue to thrive and absorb carbon dioxide. ?? Carbon Sequestration: Trees, including hardwood, absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere during photosynthesis and store it in their wood. This process, called carbon sequestration, helps reduce the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. ?? Long-term Storage: Hardwood is a durable material that can store carbon for decades or even centuries, depending on its use. When used for construction or furniture, the carbon remains locked away, further reducing greenhouse gas emissions. While hardwood can be a valuable tool in mitigating climate change, it’s important to consider the entire lifecycle of wood products. Letting mature hardwood trees die naturally in the forest releases the stored carbon back into the atmosphere, so it’s best to prioritize long-lasting uses like construction and furniture. Team members like Pat Lehman and Gary Allen are essential to upholding our commitment. Their dedication to excellence ensures that our hardwood meets the highest standards. Patrick Lehman may be young, but he is already a seasoned millwright at our Cortland Plant. His amazing work ethic and teamwork are second to none. Pat came to Gutchess directly after graduating Alfred State and has not looked back. He is always willing to lend a hand and keep raising the bar for the maintenance team. "Pat is an invaluable member of the Cortland Plant Maintenance team,” Maintenance Manager Gary Allen said. “Pat truly represents what it means when we say, "Be Sure It's Gutchess!" Gary Allen is the Maintenance Manager at our Cortland plant. This role requires the ability to multi-task while still maintaining attention to detail. Gary masters this and leads the team to prioritize safety, quality, and production. Our maintenance crews are the unsung heroes helping at every location. As the second photo shows, Gary is always behind the scenes, ensuring the plant and its machinery are running in peak form. Thank you Pat and Gary! Gutchess sales rep Benjamin Stuart attended the Tecno Mueble Internacional tradeshow in Mexico! Here are a few things Ben learned while abroad: The Spanish “TECNO MUEBLE” translates to “Technology and Furniture,” which perfectly encapsulates the tradeshow’s main focus. The show highlighted the latest trends in the furniture industry, innovative materials and technologies, and the exchange of ideas and business practices. This year, the Scandinavian design style and color palette were prevalent. However, some new colors, like pastels, are emerging. Accessories with dynamic colors are also being used in these contemporary designs. Most of the tables were made of White Oak. We’re proud to support customers worldwide with premium hardwood, and it is inspiring to see how northern hardwood plays a key role in design worldwide. #hardwood #lumber #manufacturing #imports #exports
