Another reason why I dig Deeplocal: the branding, a.k.a., the 'tude. While branding trends have become stale, flat, and, well, rather corporate over the years, Deeplocal's new brand is this expressive skull dude that I can't get enough of. Sure, this could have been a lowercase "dl" in Montserrat font with a slight blue gradient applied to it (not saying I've ever branded a company that way... but if I did, you might be able to see it in my work history ??), but instead they chose to make their brand a character WITH character. This immediately represents what I feel when I think of them: creative, polished, and slightly rebellious. ?? Last night I went to my first creative technology meetup, Fireside, where I got to see Bryant Place, a creative technologist and former teammate of mine at Downstream, give a great presentation on content management systems (CMS) and how they can be used to enhance your generative vision. I couldn’t have asked for a better topic for my first meetup and it got me freaking STOKED. Here’s why: I’ve been fortunate enough to work on multiple experiential CMSs over the past five years. Empowering creatives to unlock their vision is precisely what drives me to help build the Gumband platform. To hear an established creative’s perspective on the value of content management was wildly motivating—it was so hard to not start yelling and fist-pumping while Bryant described the true power of the tools we build and use. If you haven’t been to Fireside yet, I’d highly recommend it. The group meets every two months at Goodies Snack Shop in Portland and is looking to grow. We just wrapped up #CES2025 in Las Vegas and here are some of our insights and takeaways from the event ?? ? This year felt very robot-centric, with a push toward autonomy and automation for healthcare and house chores (cleaning, lawn care, pool maintenance). ? Still feeling early for the adoption of humanoid robots, but they are likely the next wave (2-3 years), so expect to start seeing robots EVERYWHERE. ? We encountered a lot of demo-forward experiences — with a focus on interactions — but measurement felt completely antiquated. In fact, we even saw people with clickers next to robots performing complex tasks - what a contrast! ? Experiences were flashy but didn’t feel dynamic or personalized, and they weren’t contextually-wired or programmed to change based on their own surroundings. Overall though, we still saw some great innovations and excited to see what's coming this year. As we wrap up an incredible week at CES in Las Vegas, I’m feeling grateful for the Gumband team and super optimistic about the future—not only as it relates to technology and innovation, but also as it relates to the world of in-person experiences. Gumband exists at the intersection of these things, as a single pane of glass between the digital and built worlds. Our platform gives brands the ability to gather insights and measure Return on Experience (ROX) in new and powerful ways—and it's never been more relevant. From advancements in robotics and AI-driven personalization to immersive AR/VR environments, the future is about making every interaction count. Here are a few of my observations: 1?? The In-Person Renaissance: Even in a digital-first world, the power of physical, face-to-face connections is undeniable. Immersive experiences fuel engagement and the challenge for brands now is to design environments that merge real-time interactivity with lasting emotional resonance. 2?? Data is King—but Context is Queen: There is a lot that brands can learn about their audiences from the experiences that dot the aisles of events like CES, but only if they know what to look for and what data to gather. We talked with many brands this past week who had multi-million dollar booths and product displays with no meaningful way of measuring success or understanding the impact of their event investment. In a sea of futuristic robots performing complex tasks poised to shower our lives with automation, most brands were gathering engagement data using manual people count clickers and giving out hats. We created Gumband as an elegant toolset for creating experiential intelligence and proving ROX. 3?? Robots are taking over the world: There will soon be robots everywhere, all the time, so I hope you like robots.
