The Gulfport Energy team was thrilled to welcome pre-graduate talent back into the organization and open an internship position within the Land department for an 8-week term. We had the chance to sit down with our intern, Brooks Cohorn, to share his experience this summer as he wrapped up his final weeks at Gulfport.
For those who don’t know you, tell us a little about yourself.
"My name is Brooks Cohorn, and I’m from Dallas, Texas. I’m entering my senior year at the University of Oklahoma, where I’m double majoring in Finance and Energy Management. This summer, I’ve had the opportunity to intern at Gulfport Energy, which has been an exciting and invaluable experience. Outside of my studies and internship, I enjoy golfing, fishing, sports, and spending time with family and friends!"
How has your experience been working alongside the GPOR team this summer?
"Working alongside the Gulfport Energy team has been incredibly rewarding. The team has been welcoming and supportive, providing me with the opportunity to dive deep into real-world projects. I’ve gained hands-on experience in various aspects of land management, which has been both challenging and enlightening. The collaborative environment at GPOR allowed me to contribute to meaningful projects while learning from experienced professionals."
What was the highlight of your internship?
"One of the standout moments of my summer as a land intern at Gulfport Energy was my trip to Ohio, where I had the opportunity to visit the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) and tour an oil rig. This experience was impactful as it allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of the regulatory aspects and operational intricacies of the oil and gas industry. The firsthand insight into how regulatory practices are implemented and the technical aspects of the oil rig provided me with valuable knowledge that I can apply to my role and future career in energy. It was an enlightening experience that enhanced my appreciation for the field and the importance of effective resource management."
How do you feel the time with GPOR has enhanced your professional career in Land?
"My internship at Gulfport Energy has significantly advanced my career in land management. I've gained hands-on experience in land research, lease management, and regulatory compliance, which has deepened my understanding of the field. Working closely with experienced professionals and tackling real-world challenges has enhanced my technical skills and strategic thinking. The experience has also helped me build a network of professionals and mentors who have provided valuable insights and guidance."
