What we do: Spark creativity through learning ?? Trash (or as we like to call it, marine debris). It's just not something you want to see at the beach. Now, tastefully displayed on a wall, that's different. That's... ART. ????Thanks to a project supported by Motiva Enterprises through our Gulf Star Program, kids in the Tampa area are not just learning about marine debris, they are taking action, and teaching others. Led by our partners at the Florida Aquarium, students have been removing marine debris and making it into art. These colorful pieces were then displayed at the Aquarium. . . . #marinedebris #GulfofMexico #GoodfortheGulf #Florida #Tampa #GulfStar

20 years of GOMA: Embrace the Gulf In 2020, the Alliance launched the Embrace the Gulf campaign, a year-long education and awareness effort developed by the Education & Engagement Team as a way to promote positive messages highlighting the vitality, sustainability, and productivity of the Gulf of Mexico. Knowing that the best way to reach a broad audience across the five Gulf states would be to use the power of social media, the Alliance shared daily messages across Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. The initiative was extremely successful, engaging over 25,000 new followers. Building on this success, the Alliance continued the initiative through 2021 with a new focus on improving the health of the Gulf by turning awareness into action. Weekly messages shared ways to volunteer, help wildlife, get outside, and more.

What we do: Supporting interns Microplastics were removed from 100 miles of Gulf coast waters recently thanks to two internships funded by CITGO through our Gulf Star Program. Keely Colinger, MSU Extension Program Assistant, and Alexis Schmactenberger interned for the MSU Coastal Research and Extension Center, where they worked on several projects including collecting more than 440 lbs. of marine debris. . . . #GoodForTheGulf #GulfOfMexico #MarineDebris #Microplastics ???????
