To help us reflect on what we're thankful for, we asked GMRI staff to read thank you notes from students who participated in our LabVenture experience. These notes serve as a reminder about how impactful our LabVenture program has been over the years. In fact, we’ve seen over 169,000 students come through LabVenture’s doors since it began in 2005. Thanks to our sponsors, students from all 16 counties can attend this immersive, hands-on learning experience at no cost to their families or schools. Thank you for making this experience real for so many students across the state. Learn more about LabVenture here: https://lnkd.in/dv6-JDnZ

We develop and deliver collaborative solutions to global ocean challenges.
关于我们
The Gulf of Maine Research Institute (GMRI) pioneers collaborative solutions to global ocean challenges. Our dynamic fusion of science, education, and community gives us range to effect change from multiple directions, while our objectivity and commitment to collaboration make us the go-to organization for marine communities grappling with contentious issues, management transitions, and new business systems. GMRI unlocks science mysteries to inform better decisions about how we steward, use, and enjoy our precious ocean resources. We work with fishermen to develop tools that let them fish smarter and get more value for their catch. We open doors to think about new sustainable and renewable uses of the marine environment. We are making a long-term investment in science literacy as the cornerstone of a 21st century ocean economy by providing programs to ignite the curiosity, ambition, innovation, and problem-solving potential of Maine's next generation.

Today, the Maine Climate Council released Maine Won't Wait 2.0 — the second iteration of our state's climate action plan. The goal of this plan is to build on the state's efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to climate change impacts. Over 100 recent or ongoing projects at GMRI advance the strategies, objectives, and actions outlined in the new plan. Additionally, several of our senior scientists support the plan directly by serving on the Scientific & Technical Subcommittee of the Council. Special thanks to the Maine Governor's Office of Policy Innovation and the Future for their ongoing leadership and commitment to a science-based and community-driven process. We've made a lot of progress in the past four years when it comes to operationalizing Maine Won't Wait, and are looking forward to building momentum over the next four as we advance version 2.0. Coastal Maine is experiencing another high water event this weekend. This morning, here in Portland, community members joined us for a guided tour down Commercial Street where we witnessed high tide flooding on a sunny, blue-sky day. Participants learned about rising seas and how they can help us document and learn from these high water events in our coastal flooding community science project. The high water event will continue over the weekend, with expected peak high tides in southern Maine at 10:40 am on Saturday, 11:30 am on Sunday, and 12:20 pm on Monday. Learn how you can prepare for these flooding events, as well as how to contribute your own observations to our community science project at the link in our bio.
