Today and always, we choose to welcome refugees, asylum seekers, immigrants, and all individuals or families facing hardship, with open arms. For 58 years, Guadalupe Center has stood unwavering in its support of those who are often overlooked or marginalized—because the need for compassion, dignity, and respect is greater than any policy or election. This dedication is deeply woven into our broader history—a history, like our nation's, that celebrates the story of immigrants. Whether our roots here go back generations or are newly planted, we share the common thread of seeking opportunity, safety, and community. Immigrants are integral to Utah's economy, culture, and future, contributing billions in taxes, filling essential roles in our workforce, and enriching our communities with diversity and resilience. They are also our neighbors, friends, and ancestors. Yet, too many still face barriers to acceptance and opportunity, challenges that cannot be ignored or sidelined by shifting political tides. We refuse to let our mission be influenced by rhetoric or limited by who's in office. Guadalupe Center continues alongside our families, standing as a beacon of hope—a place to learn, belong, and thrive. We've been working on something special, and it's time to share it with you! Today, on this National Immigrants Day, we are formally updating our name from Guadalupe School to Guadalupe Center. This update better captures the full suite of services we offer, including personalized academic education, life-skills learning, and wrap-around services in one place–for Salt Lake’s immigrant, refugee, and impoverished children, parents, and adult learners.? Along with our name change, we're debuting our new tagline, "A Place to Learn, Belong, and Thrive." Last Friday, we had the privilege of attending the Because of You brunch, hosted by Guadalupe School! Grateful for this dedicated organization in our community that tirelessly works to improve the lives of communities in need with education. Utah's ridiculous stand against DEI efforts hurts the most vulnerable in our community. Guadalupe School will continue fighting to give low-income and immigrant families opportunities to live happy and productive lives. I am beyond thrilled to announce that Guadalupe School will replace our bus fleet with a complete electric bus fleet - thanks to a grant through the EPA! We will be receiving four electric buses sometime in the next year or so. Guadalupe is located in the zip code with the worst air quality in the state of Utah. I am proud we will be doing our part to mitigate some of the air pollution. https://lnkd.in/gdPTW3qV
