Butter, lard, and meat fats, oh my! This is one family gathering our wastewater operators always closely monitor. The FOG (Fats, Oils, and Grease) family can really put a wrench in holiday plans. As we head into the holiday season, GBRA’s Deputy Executive Manager of Operations, Hunter Duncan, shares safe disposal tips to keep your pipes clear and flowing. ? Pour FOGs into a heat-tolerant container like an insulated cup, glass jar, or coffee can, and then throw it in the trash. ? Wipe down greasy pans with a paper towel before washing. ? Avoid using cloth dish towels to clean up since FOG can get trapped in the fabric and clog up your washer. Let’s follow these tips to protect our pipes and keep our water clean this holiday season. From our GBRA family to yours, we wish you a Thanksgiving Day filled with warmth, joy, and gratitude. ??

On World Toilet Day, we’re recognizing the importance of proper sanitation and the role wastewater operations play in protecting our water systems. Toilets might seem simple, but they’re a key part of maintaining public health and protecting water quality. ??? ? In order to maintain wastewater system infrastructure, it’s important to not flush objects that harm pipes like wipes and medications. These photos were taken at the Buda Wastewater Treatment Plant and highlight the misconception many people have about flushing disposable wipes and other objects down the toilet. As a quick reminder, here are some do’s and don’ts of what to flush.? ?? ? Do Flush:? - Waste??? - Toilet paper??? ?? ? Don’t Flush:??? - Wipes??? - Medications??? - Trash??? - Toys?? ? #GBRA #WorldToiletDay?#WipesClogPipes

The Canyon Lake Gorge offers a unique hiking experience through 110-million-year-old geological trail, while Coleto Creek Park provides peaceful trails perfect for a day in nature.?? ? Whether you’re an experienced hiker or just looking for a scenic escape, both locations are great places to appreciate the natural beauty and resources we work to protect at GBRA. The scariest thing this Halloween? Clogged pipes! Fats, oils, and greases (FOG) may seem harmless, but they can haunt your plumbing long after the festivities end. GBRA works to keep our communities informed and your drains flowing smoothly. Learn how to prevent FOG from causing blockages and sewer backups by checking out our interactive game at https://lnkd.in/gJQN6_GC. #GBRA #FOG #WaterQuality #Unblocktober

During the recent Texas Water Conservation Association (TWCA) conference, GBRA’s Guad Squad joined forces with other attendees for a clean-up along the San Antonio River. Together, they collected an estimated 700 pounds of trash, helping to preserve the beauty and health of our local waterways. We’re incredibly proud of our team’s commitment to environmental stewardship and grateful to everyone who took part in this impactful event. Every piece of litter removed makes a difference. Thank you to all involved for your hard work and dedication! ?? #GBRA #GuadSquad #SanAntonioRiver #TWCA #WaterConservation

In the latest installment of our series, Navigating The Waters: Highlighting What Moves GBRA, we connected with Chief Operator at the Buda Wastewater Treatment Plant Jesus (Jesse) Loera. Jesus oversees the daily wastewater treatment process. GBRA has operated the wastewater treatment plant on behalf of the City of Buda since 2001. Type 1 reuse water produced by the plant is used by the City of Buda for irrigation of some parks and city property. “Preparing for my ‘A’ license was pretty tough, [but] the support I received here with GBRA was awesome. A lot of it came from leadership roles. They supported me by getting classes for me that I needed to succeed. I'm pretty excited about my future [as] I step into the Chief Operator role, and I'm excited to see what's next for me.” Jesus is just one of our many Guad Squad team members who contribute to the mission of GBRA.
